Yus yus, do love that film. Possibly more than any other Ghibli piece.So I stepped out of my comfort zone a little bit here, and the result is. . . interesting. I'm not sure if it's too over-the-top or not, so feedback would be appreciated!
Also, fun fact! It bugged me for years that there's no clear reason why the film was called Mononoke, so I went and looked it up, and apparently mononoke is another word for yokai or spirit . So Mononoke Hime literally means The daemon princess .
I'm actually horribly under-acquainted with Ghibli, so do any of you guys have any recommendations for me to check out? What's your favourite Ghibli movie?

Also, beautiful piece, absolutely beautiful. I've always been in LOVE with the Princess Mononoke Film! The shading, the lighting, and the perspective! I love how you included the little tree spirits as well. I adore how you've drawn the princess as well, it looks exactly like her! And the wolf himself is stunning, it looks like you could just reach out and touch his fur! You can see every strand! This is perfect, no critique needed!

Above all, I recommend Spirited Away. I watched it when I was little and I've always been so fascinated by it and the story is so good! Also, Tales From Earthsea was pretty good. I love it most for the soundtrack, personally, but it's good all things considered

Humans hard to draw ghh ;-; I understand you -^- I think some more practise and you will draw them perfect! But even from thumb, without reading name I understood what is it
I realy love composition and colors! Really interesting view and aww this small spirits hehe ; D and OMG trees, leaves and everything...:0 simple sky and lighting looks a bit childy (?) For such detailed piece, I think some more painterly clouds and lights would be better...jut opinion, anyway
And I really love fur! As always, it is so realisic and shiny and magic *-* and his face ;^; eyes..awwwhhh they so deep and spirital! I simply see that it isn't usual wolf :3
From Ghimbli movies my fav are Spirited Away, Ponyo fish( emm yeah, hope wrote correct ) and last one, Wind Rises , I really shocked after watching it, to beautiful and epic for meh ;^; Feeeels

Thanks so much for the critique! I agree with your comment about the clouds - looking at them now I see how out of place they look compared to the rest of the image. I think my brain must have shut down by the time I got round to painting them in XD
Ahh I love Spirited Away. Have been meaning give Ponyo a go for a while too, but isn't Wind Rises the new one which just came out this year? I'm glad it sounds good, can't wait to see it!

Wind Rises is new one yeah, but I was able to download it in good quality, so I think you can find it too / if you even meaned about this..I jsut know it is hard to watch anything for free in some countries /

As for Ghibli recommendations- I actually above all would not recommend Tales from Earthsea at all. If you've read the original books by Ursula K. Le Guin the movie will make you sad with how Goro directed it. (Wish the elder Miyazaki had done it instead but he was making Ponyo at the time.) I would recommend watching it only for the visual/audio quality. Stunning soundtrack and dragons. Poo-poo what happened to the story.
As for positive recommendations:
More fantasy based: Spirited Away, Laputa: Castle in the Sky, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Howl's Moving Castle, My Neighbor Totoro, Pom Poko, Kiki's Delivery Service. (Would actually recommend reading the Nausicaa manga Miyazaki wrote over watching the film in some respects.)
More based in 'our world': Porco Rosso, The Wind Rises, Whisper of the Heart and then watch The Cat Returns
I would also not recommend From Up On Poppy Hill, I'm just not a huge fan of Goro's films after the travesty that was Earthsea... long story short, Earthsea the film whitewashed the characters, put extra violence in that was never in the books, put romance in there that didn't exist (the girl in the film that's older is only 7 in the books...). However I have heard that Goro's newest film When Marnie Was There is quite good! So that's nice.
Also Grave of the Fireflies is more of a heartbreaker than anything else from the studio, but then again, makes sense considering it is about real children from WWII. Best war film I've ever watched.

I mean, I'd say watch it if you'd like, but invest more time into the books if the material seems interesting to you. The material is good in the other sense that Earthsea (the series) did inspire a lot of the way Miyazaki handles his characters in other Ghibli films. So that's neat. Lots of echoes in Le Guin's writing and Miyazaki's characterization. In any case, hope you enjoy more of the Studio's films!
