Description I love dragons and I adore the character Vermithrax Pejorative from the movie Dragon Slayer (haven't seen it, see it).

I happen to have the character Vermithrax on Furcadia and decided to make her my own.

Yes, she has some similarities to the original creature concept design (I didn't want to go too out of the box since I loved her so as she was seen on the big screen) but she definitely does has her differences.

She's a Red Dragon/ Wyvern

So I whipped this piece up and I really like it!

Thank you kindly (n_n)

My goodness, that idea for an art piece with her is so utterly clever and a great! Now I just may have to, hee hee.

I need to get active again anyways on dA and with my art in general.

This looks really fantastic. I loved Vermithrax in that movie. Your design of her looks a little cooler, though.

That is so kind of you to say! It can't be helped that things weren't cooler when Dragon Slayer was made, it is still a great and inspiring movie. Thank you so much, I'm glad you like this interpretation.

Thank you so much! I think the overall Wyvern design is a very creative one, such an awesome beast of myth

I like your rendition of Vermithrax. The color rendering is especially good! I like how you didn't make her neck unrealistically long. It's much more believable.

Thank you so much on the positive feedback, I can't tell you what it means to me!

I'm so happy to hear you like the way I have portrayed Vermithrax, she has what feels like such a small role in the movie and with the various lighting used, her colors are questionable (I still wonder if she was more of a gold/ green and copper color but I stick by the beauty of this red).

I love Dragons and making her as believable as possible in my artistic style is what I went for. I'm glad her necks anatomy arms right

I really should do more/ new arty of her since I have grown artistically and can do more justice now than I did then.

Thank you again!

You're quite welcome!

Yes, it would have been nice to have seen more of Vermithrax in the film, but budgets and technology being what it was in the 1980s we're probably to have gotten as much as we did. The same thing happened to Draco in "Dragonheart" (and which I didn't like as much as Vermithrax). Lots of his scenes were cut because of the expense of creating photoreal CGI in the 1990s.

I missed out on seeing Dragonslayer on the big screen when it first came out, and I'm now sorry that I did. The first time that we see Vermithrax in her glory, as she's about to flame Galen with wings spread wide, I can imagine how that would have looked in some giant-screen movie palace, in 70mm 2.35:1 Panavision. The 16x9 aspect ratio used for DVDs simply doesn't do the movie justice.

The local cinema now has almost all digital projectors, and sometimes shows "cult classics." I'll have to ask them if they would consider showing Dragonslayer in wide-screen. I would definitely go to see that!

The other thing I didn't mention was that I liked the throat fan and neck crest you have her. It fits in well, and has a "completing" effect to Vermithrax that is hard to describe. The closest I could come is to compare it to the late Ansel Adams description of photographs, especially the "fine print:" All elements combine to create something that is "fulfilling" and "satisfying."

Vermithrax is definitely one of the best, if not THE best, dragon to appear so far in movies. She possesses a nobility that commands respect.

BTW, since you love dragons, do you accept commissions? I have an idea for a dragon I'd like to see, but don't have the artistic talent to render him. I have a few bits and pieces to guide his design and pose.

I completely understand why at the time they could not show more of Vermithrax, but the anticipation was worth the wait and even the small appearance. She owned the screen when she was on it. I felt for Dragonheart's time they did a real nice job, but to demand CGI then was a bit much and it makes sense why so little of Draco was seen too.

I wasn't around to see it on the Big Screen, though I wouldn't mind seeing it myself up there at our local Oldies/ Cult Classics Theater (though for the past few years they have been on a purely zombie kick since zombies have dominated the scene). I hope that your theater will run Dragonslayer in your city, that would be so grand and you must let me know all about it!!!

It makes me so happy to hear that you felt my tweaks and edits had a 'completing' effect to the design. You offer me with such kind words on my art and I adore you for it. I wish I could convey how much it means to me to have you Constructively Critique my work (not many even Critique my work and hence such a small Gallery when I do have more to show), that doesn't mean you couldn't have said what you didn't like (I can take that too), but I appreciate the comments on what you do like! It really puts a fire in my heart.

I agree, she is by far my favorite movie Dragon. At a close second I do like what they did with the Gold Dragon in Beowulf. But they had the funds and means to create something so utterly gorgeous.

If the mood strikes me I open Commission Slots and for a Dragon Piece for you I would be more than happy to. I have already sent you Note and hope I can fulfill your artistic needs. (I love Dragons so I'm happy to slave over your ideas and design.)

Thank you for considering me for the task at hand! I have grown artistically since this piece and many of the others you see so I will give it my all and then some should you choose to Commission me.
