This really reminds me of Cave Story.

I like it.

Nice colors! I really love the geometric leaves on the tree! The stars in the background are also great, they add a lot to this piece.

Glad you like it! The leaves are unusual looking because I made the tree by a process of upscaling an original, smaller version and adding detail.

It's a very nice game! I never managed to create such a smooth jump in my games...

First of all, art is incredible. As for the game, this could be really amazing really fast! Step one: Make a giant open world space land. Step two: throw powerups everywhere, metroidvania style, such as double jump, shovel to break breakable blocks, maybe a morphing ability similar to morph ball (I like metroid ;D). I also really liked the fake walls (as long as you put them in places where a player would likely go accidentally or on purpose) it's a very good way to hide secrets. This game also could use some sweet ambiance.

So ya, keep up the good work! Art looks insanely fantastical (seriously the tree alone is a work of art). The only complaint is that the player looks a little... out of place? Still, good work

Oh, and more frequent checkpoints would be nice tooΒ

I'm going to temp you with an idea for this. I hope you'll agree.

But I would like to you that you not so much make this into a game, bur more of an artistic piece. Leaving the mechanics simple to jumping and moving, and motivation is it up to the players to explore the world you created. And keep it mostly visually too, there's no need for dialogue and story lines, though music could be fine(if you can compose). Just make it about your art.

First of all, thanks for the comment.

I like that idea a lot. Probably a lot of the game will be like you described, just exploring. But I also have a few things in mind that I want to add, so it's not going to be just jumping around.

Hey you know, do what you love. I can back that all the way. But I will just secretly pray that the single man's development of a game doesn't take away from the visual art. If you feel like you have the time to manage it, go for the big goal.
