Design Notes:
Like the Ground starters, I wanted them to look odd , but not TOO odd like other UBs. Since all Grass starters are based on plants, I went with fungi instead to make them more alien. The starter theme was invertebrates, so I also picked various mollusks (Gloreen = snails, Carthullux = nudibranchs and octopi).
Conceptually, they’re based on sci-fi tropes like alien fungi, parasites, and mind control. Their eyestalks are real parasites combined (Cordyceps and Leucochloridium - basically snail eyestalk worms). And threw in a little Cthulhu sprinkles because why not! They also went through a LOT of concepts before I finally decided on one - have a look!
