Hey I have a question! Are birth defects and/or deformities frowned upon in the Dimidian contest? Is there a common defect that they can have?

No, not unless it's something really disturbing or controversial
Some can be born with weak, small useless wings. Although that's not much of a problem since most don't have any wings at all. And we're thinking of adding more defects/deformities to the species c:

one day soon i may just make one of these for the hell of it xD i have a decent idea for thier design anyway.
i'm a little confused by the sizes though.. you say 'can be as small as a dog but most are about the size of a large cat.' isn't a large cat at most the same size as the average dog? it just seems like you're saying thier average size is smaller than thier smallest size o:
