Description The New Continent is home to many species of pronghorn. They fill a wide range of herbivore niches similar to the antelope of Africa and Asia. The smallest known species is the jackalope. Significantly shorter and stockier than plains-dwelling pronghorn, the jackalope lived in the heavy underbrush of the southwest. Large ears help with heat dispersion during intense summers. A small set of forked horns adorn the heads of males while females have even tinier nubs. Rather than dwelling in herds, jackalope are spend most of their time hiding alone in the heaviest of cover.

Notes: this is part of a larger project I’ve been working on for some time now. It is set in an alternate earth were the Pleistocene-Holocene extinction didn’t occur or wasn’t as drastic (long story for another time). Homo sapiens hasn’t made it to the New World Contingents until recently and are encountering strange new creatures for the first time.
