Description Tada! I finally got around to finishing my set of possible color palates for Mail Emil's dresses! They are now up for vote! (Don't be discouraged, ~ShadowedLightning , if you still want to color, I'll happily include yours in the pool of possible color schemes! Just take your time and finish when you can. ) So, here's a list of Emil's dresses:

Haha, I tried to keep them all named after food items. There really are no blue foods, though, so I had to go with a water theme for those. Also, please don't let the names influence your decision too heavily. It's about the colors, not the names. I just wanted to give them names for easier differentiation because some palates are really similar, but the subtle differences change the entire "mood" of the dress, I think. Anyhow, I'd love to hear opinions! What do you like? What do you hate? Let me know!

As always, Emil is from Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World which is (c) Bandai-Namco.

Please, even though this is fan art, do not use these color palates for your own art without asking my permission first! I worked very hard designing this dress and developing these color palates! No stealing!

That's one of my favorites, too. Haha, as I said on the line art version, you're perfectly welcome to color it! You have my full permission! I hope you have the time to do it soon! I'd love to see how you envision the dress!


Yeah, school can be such a pain... interfering with fun stuff... bleh... School's a priority, though. Do what you need to do first, then enjoy your free time by coloring Maid Emil!

Yep! I got some votes for some pink ones! They are pretty damn cute! He's like a little princess in those pink ones!

Yeah, I like Lime a lot too! Ahahaha, it just makes it all the more awesome that it's his name backwards!

Haaaa....  Hopefully I can get around to coloring soon, I just need to see what my new schedule's gonna look like so I know what kinda time I'm workin' with...


But I really do like the lime and watercress ones, I was thinking of using some of those colors myself.  XD



Not terribly fond of red, doesn't seem to look as good on him to me.

Heeheehee! You're not just picking lime because it's "Emil" backwards, are you?! Hahahahaha! Yes, I tend to like those green ones. Mint, Lime, Watercress, and Green Apple are my favorite greens. I have no idea what I was thinking with Spinach, though... But, yeah, green brings out his eyes.


Aw, I like the red ones! Of course, I probably have a bias because red's my favorite color. But, yeah, I guess I agree. Red also seems like more of a "regal" gown than a maid dress. The colors suit a ball gown more than a maid outfit, so maybe I'll save red for something like that...


I was actually surprised by a few color palates here. Apricot looked a lot better than I expected, and Cream - Chocolate Mousse are some of my favorite "neutral" dresses. I'll see if I can get any other opinions before I settle on a dress. Most of these look beautiful to me, so I'd have a hard time picking on my own... Still, there are a few in here that are just... if anyone picks them, I will laugh my ass off!

Haha, no, he really does look good in the lighter greens.  It's the eyes, I think, for sure.  XD


Red's a good color, but it feels...  Wrong for Emil in particular, I think.  Like, certain people are able to wear certain colors better than others?  I feel like Emil doesn't look as good in red as he does in other colors, like greens.

Hehe, yeah, he does look pretty good in green. On the other hand, most people do. Green and brown are the most natural colors, so most humans are inclined to find them pleasant. Blonds also have a history of looking good in green. Link, for example! Haha, but the fact that it brings out his eyes just makes it even better!


Blonds tend to look good in almost every color, especially if they have light skin. Bumblebee yellow and Pumpkin orange are really the only colors blonds can't wear successfully... I thought red would look okay on him because he has a more rosy skin-tone/complexion. But, yeah, I think the reds maybe aren't "subtle" enough for Emil. He's not really a flashy/flamboyant guy, so something more neutral might work better. Maybe a burgundy... But, yeah, either way, I guess red's not the ideal color for a maid outfit... I still think he looks great in almost all of them, though! And red will always be my favorite color, even if I end up picking a green dress for the story!


Ahahaha, I thought it would be really obvious, but... Fruit Punch and Fruit Popsicle have to be the worst offenders... Cane Sugar and Sea Salt Ice Cream are just... way too bright... Chocolate Mint... just makes me ROFL... Boysenberry is grating on my nerves a bit... one purple is too dark, the other is too magenta and the colors are just... too clashy... Sugarplum is way better than Boysenberry in my opinion. Bubblegum and Lychee are just... absurdly pink... it's like the shade of pink you dress your baby girl in if you want to adhere to the stereotype of "all girls wear pink"... Like I said, I have no idea what I was thinking with Spinach... those are the shades of green you wear if you have an olive-y skin-tone like my high school psychology teacher, not when you have a tan/rosy complexion like Emil... I have really mixed feelings about Olive, that yellow/mustard green is starting to look like a bad accent color... Blueberry Jam is just too dark for my preferences. And the hot/electric pink in Pomegranate and Wine is starting to become eye-searing...


On the other hand, I'm really fond of Red Delicious Apple, Sugarplum, Rosehip Tea, Apricot - Chocolate Mousse, Mint, Green Apple, Brine (I think a lot of people might find it ugly, but I have a real soft spot for it for some reason...), Rain Water, Rosemary Blossom, Spring Water, and (yet another odd soft spot for) Raspberry and Cherry Cordial.


I've also gotten votes for Dragonfruit and Cloudberry. I think they're a bit loud, but also kind of cute. I don't hate them, but I'm more of a fan of muted colors on Emil...

I wouldn't say its PREDICATABLE, exactly, but I do now have a better idea of how much I'm working--it's back to the low end, so provided I can focus on fun things instead of stressing (though I'm not terribly sure about that...), I'll hopefully get started on it soon!

It might totally be part of his personality that I think reds don't quite fit him, either.  I think he could pull off more muted reds, though--but bright reds don't seem to click with him in my mind.  Maybe a more pastel look would suit him better?  He doesn't look BAD in any of them, but some definitly feel better than others, IMO.  But that was the whole point of trying them out, right?  XD  Red IS a great color, though.

Aaaah, yeah, those.  I actually think Fruit Popsicle isn't HORRIFIC, but maybe if it was handled in a more muted, subtle way it could looks better?  And yeah..  Those other two DID hurt my eyes a little.  XD  The others...  Yeah, some are a bit dark and could be better with some lightening and others could use muting.


MUTED COLORS ON EMIL FOREVER.  It just seems to fit HIM more.  Muted, but not totally subdued coloring.  And he can pull off brighter accents, or things with decent contrast!  Just not things that are ALL BRIGHT ALL THE TIME YOU MIGHT AS WELL BE LOOKING INTO THE SUN FUCKER CUZ NOW YOU'RE BLIIIIND.

Ha, well even the illusion of predictability is nice! That's good that you're getting a little break! Take a little time to unwind and color when you're nice and relaxed! Art should be a fun and soothing activity! I know I draw and write best when I'm nice and relaxed.

Yeah, agreed. He's got a more passive, mellow personality, and bright reds are usually indicative of an active, wild, boisterous disposition. I'll try a more muted palate and a more "pastel" palate for the reds and see if it helps. But, hey, if it doesn't work for the maid outfit, maybe it can be a ball gown or something... or maybe on a different character...? Like I said, now that ~VaatisCloudy inducted me into the Kuroshitsuji/Black Butler fandom, some of the cast is going to be entering the story... And Grell is always in red, so maybe for him... Haha, yeah, some colors are definitely more suited to Emil than others... But, yes, that was precisely the point of trying them out! And whatever doesn't work here can be recycled for other outfits for other characters later on! Haha, red is awesome! I always run out of red markers/crayons/paints/pastels/colored pencils before any other color! I use it so much!


Ahahaha... they're mostly horrible, aren't they?! Yeah, Fruit Popsicle might look better if I toned down that fucking eye-searing magenta/maroon to a more muted/lighter color... But I still think it's pretty ugly. LOL, those two were so fucking bright I had to wear a welding mask to color them! Haha, with most of the others, I love the colors, just not on Emil! Haha, I may make a few tweaks later, but I think if I can get a good range of votes on these, I could narrow down the ones I'd end up tweaking, too. I may have my mom and some peers at college help me further narrow my choices...


Yus! Just like his personality: muted, but not subdued! Hehe, when it comes time for the final rendition when I have the final palate picked, I may do an embroidery on the bottom skirt with a brighter accent/contrasting color. But, yeah, I think it would be better if my audience didn't have to wear sunglasses to look at Emil's dress!
