Do you think if i tried to use oil pastels on shoes it would work?

I'm not entirely sure if that would work or not. I mean it might if you spray fixative on them once you are done, but I'm really not sure. I've never tried pastels before and I never tried them on clothing based items either. I would get a pair of shoes you don't care for and test it on them before you do anything else.
