That is great! Please congratulate her for me and I hope she was not too offended at me taking a photo of her. She is stunning though!

Nice photo! I love her expression.
I am thinking her name is Ichimame. I'm best at full frontals telling Maiko from Maiko.
Ichimame of Pontocho, not to be confused by the much more famous Ichimame of Kamishichiken.

Do you know the maiko and geisha then in Kyoto?

Was this photo taken in summer? The dragonflies in her hair ornament and open weave of her kimono seem to indicate July-August perhaps.

hi there, sorry for the lateness in response, but yes this photo was taken in late July! It is fascinating how geisha change their outfits so often to reflect natures seasons. Its wonderful!

Ahhh Kyoto, this must have been around Gion. There are quite a few Geisha in activity in Gion as I remember. I must say that is an excellent capture, since I remember quite a few people trailing after several Maiko and or Geisha when they left the tea hous(es), making it rather difficult for an excellent shot such as this.

Yes, it was a 'snap shot' in the real sense of the word! No maiko hunting from me! This was on the other side of the river from Gion although we saw plenty there too!

Did you manage to swing by the Kabuki theater? I never made it inside but I heard it was amazing.
