Description Oookay, this morning it looked fat but now its legs spread out. Man, this is very tough to learn about this spider. Maybe this spider was using its legs to cover its eyes from the sunlight or something. I don't know. But now that the sun has set, the spider open its legs out. Though I got a good clear picture. My iPhone camera always gets blurry when something is too close up in front of the lens or something.
I hope you guys seen this type of spider. Is it a Garden Spider?
This spider hasn't moved from its spot all day. This is weird to me. No offense.

Garden Spider -Β Β Garden Spiders are found throughout the United States. They are also known as the Writing Spider, Banana Spider, and Corn Spider. Their black, yellow and white markings are conspicuous. The females are the larger of the sexes, measuring about 3/4 of an inch. The Garden Spider is completely harmless to humans.

Β

Garden Spiders will spin webs in the eaves of buildings, in barns, sheds, and greenhouses, and around large sturdy vegetation. They prefer the outdoors and are not often seen indoors unless there is a steady food source.Β

Β

Adult Garden Spiders do not live beyond autumn's first frost. Their eggs remain protected within a brown silk ball-shaped sack through the winter.Β At the onset ofΒ spring the new generation emerges. The hatchlings will draw out a strand of silk that is caught by the wind, carrying them away from the old web

Interesting.
I always know that female spiders are always larger than the males. It's hard to tell by the size.

Is Garden Spiders the same as orb weavers?
This spider pic is probably an orb weaver

i don't know, what kind of spider that is, but i'm scared of spiders, it has the same markings on it's belly like a Garden spider dose, so i pretty sure that is the spider that you saw, and i don't think that is a Orb weaver or anything.

I looked at the picks of a spider that has black and two yellow dots on its belly. And when I found the pick, it said it's an orb weaver.

We have these sort of spiders in the UK too. They normally stay in the center of the web to wait for a meal or they sleep in the center of the web during the day. I have these spiders outside my window sometimes. It may be a female spider or it just had a large meal a few days before. But other than that, they are harmless ^^

GothNebula In reply to ChelseaTheChihuahua [2017-10-03 22:03:01 +0000 UTC]

I see. But even if they stay in the middle of their web, bugs will see them. I think.
I don't know by harmless because they can bite.

Well I think bugs or flies cant see the web very well, yh they can bite but their venom isnt deadly, its just a small nip. But to me i just looks full after eating :/ I wouldnt worry too much though, Idk much about American spiders though

GothNebula In reply to ChelseaTheChihuahua [2017-10-03 22:20:39 +0000 UTC]

True. Even us humans can't see. But the sunlight can shine on spider webs for us to see easily.
I don't know if it had a meal because this spider hasn't moved from its spot all day. Well, last night it did move by fixing its spider web, probably because the web was getting less sticky.

Eh, there are a lot of spiders around the world. Some are not American.

I find this spider cute, but stay away from poisonous ones, like the black widow.Β

Some people have pet spiders but they keep them in glass cages. My cousin has pet tarantulas, which he feeds them cockroaches and I saw a guy in youtube has a pet golden orb weaver spider.

Yup, I know. Black ones that look leathery are poisonous.

Freaky but I have nothing against them. Tarantulas are very scary to me.

Mariposabutterfly In reply to GothNebula [2017-10-02 23:12:12 +0000 UTC]

Well, I don't find spiders creepy because they are just arachnids that are catching their food in webs or other methods but we have to be careful because some are poisonous.Β

GothNebula In reply to Mariposabutterfly [2017-10-02 23:16:38 +0000 UTC]

I see.
But big tarantulas can eat small rodents and small birds. It can also kill snakes.
But tarantulas are also prey too because the only predator I know that hunts and eats tarantulas is a tarantula hawk. A wasp.

Hey there Samantha. Great pic. To put your mind at rest it is a common garden spider. We have loads in my backyard atm Β and are pretty harmless to us humans. The reason they spread thier legs like that is for 2things. 1 is that they can stay in position in windy conditions and 2 is so that they can feel vibrations of insects that get caught in its web. Hope this helps clear these up. πŸ˜€

GothNebula In reply to Panthers07 [2017-10-02 23:04:14 +0000 UTC]

Hi
I knew it. It is a Garden Spider. But is an orb weaver the same thing like a Garden Spider?
Ah, i see. That explains why this morning was a little windy which made the spider close its legs. For a moment there I thought it was gaining weight as a sign of pregnancy or covering its eyes with its legs from the sunlight.

Thanks for the tips.

Creepy. In the wild, the female eats the male when mating. Then the baby spiders eat their mother. No parents to look after them. Very freaky.
