Interpretation zu Helnweins Epiphanie (von Michael Kühne)
Sehr geehrter großer Meister Gottfried Helnwein, das ist ein unglaubliches Meisterwerk.
Es gibt sehr viele Interpretationen. Schade, das die Witwe eines der dargestellten Offiziere glaubt, ihr verstorbener Mann sei dort als Rassist dargestellt. Das kann nicht hineingedeutet werden.

There are many interpretations. Too bad that the widow of one of the officers believes that her deceased husband is shown there as a rasist. This cannot be interpreted in.
Dem Betrachter zugewendet stehen fünf Offiziere der Nation, welche für den Holocaust im 3. Reich verantwortlich ist. Im Zentrum dieser Gruppe sitzt eine junge Frau, leicht erhöht und in den Vordergrund gerückt, eine junge Frau mit einem nackten, männlichem Kleinkind auf ihren Oberschenkeln. Es wird von ihr behutsam gehalten, so das es aufrecht stehend dem Betrachter entgegenblicken kann. Die junge frau lächelt. Daraus und aus ihrer anmutigen Haltung kann man schließen, das sie mit Stolz ihr Kind präsentiert. Bei der Kleidung der Frau handelt es sich höchstwahrscheinlich um eine römische Tunika.
Facing the viewer are five officers of the nation, which is responsible for the Holocaust in the 3rd Reich. At the center of this group sits a young woman, moved slightly higher and in the foreground, a young woman with a naked, male toddler on her thighs. It is held gently by it, so that it can upright look towards the viewer. The young woman smiles. From this and their graceful posture, one can conclude that she proudly presented her child. Die Gesichter der umstehenden Männer sind entspannt, gar gelassen. Die Person auf der linken Bildseite im Vordergrund, gekleidet in schwarzer SS Uniform lächelt der jungen Frau entgegen. Die junge Frau meidet den direkten Blickkontakt.
Dem Titel nach “Epiphanie” und der Kleidung der jungen Frau nach handelt es sich um Maria, der Mutter von Jesus Christus.
The faces of the men standing around are relaxed, even serene. The person on the left of the screen in the foreground, dressed in black SS uniform smiles at the young woman. The young woman avoids direct eye contact.
The title for "epiphany" and the young woman's clothing to is Mary, the mother of Jesus Christ.
Wie so oft in der Kunstgeschichte wird eine historische Szene in einen neuen Zeitkontext gebracht. Der Heiligen Drei Könige ähnlich, verhalten sich die Offiziere auf diesem Gemälde. Alle Offiziere haben Ihre Mützen abgenommen, besonders gut zu erkennen daran, wie der SS-Offizier links im Bild seine Mütze typisch unter seinen Arm geklemmt hält. Eine anerkennende Haltung, auf keinen Fall bedrohlich.
Die Mutter Maria mit ihrem Kind Jesus wird von Nazi-Größen geachtet oder sogar bewundert? Warum nicht!
Kaum jemand hat das Judentum schärfer kritisiert als Jesus Christus.
Hier schließt sich der Kreis: Hätten die Juden Jesus Christus nicht ans Kreuz nageln lassen, hätte es den Holocaust nicht gegeben.
As so often in the history of art, a historical scene is brought into a new time context. Similarly, the Magi, the officers behave in this painting. All officers have taken off your caps, particularly clearly in mind, as the SS officer left in the picture, his cap holds clamped typical under his arm. An appreciative attitude, threatening in any way.
The Virgin Mary with her child Jesus is respected by leading Nazis or even admired? Why not!
Hardly anyone has Judaism sharply criticized as Jesus Christ.
Here we come full circle: Had the Jews not let Jesus Christ nailed to the cross, there would have been no Holocaust.

These are actual Nazi officers (based on a historic photograph where they are surrounding Hitler). The widow of one of the officers painted in this picture, threatened to sue Helnwein as the painting supposedly made her deceased husband look like a racist.

I see. To you is a kind of humor. But to many of us, God and Christ are not a matter of humor. I thought that you were a humanist and I think God is a very repectable part of human. Is special when you use the God of a religion diffirent to yours many human hearts might feel hurt. In the same way Hitler destroyed so many human lifes, an artist can destroy many human hearts.
