I imagined during transformation this was the scene inside Luna's head. A small, terrified Luna, who instant regretted her wrong doing, looking up to her big, evil becoming self. Later the "Nightmare Moon" throws Luna out of the scene, thus her transformation into Nightmare Moon.
Nightmare moon is coming..

I actually pictured this too! Have you seen the fan made video Fall of The Crystal Empire by Silly Filly Studios? At the end I imagine it was hard for her to take by herself from Nightmare Moon after the fight with King Sombra.
