Catwoman

In her little cardigan with her sloping shoulders,
in her little bungalow that the she’s got through
the council with the little bit of garden out back
always a cat to be seen by her somewhere.

The whole place smells of piss and crap
but se doesn’t notice because she loves the cats
and she knows every one by sight, all of them
huddled on furniture, in corners, under the sofa.

There’s no lino to be seen in the kitchen,
and the nice new carpet the council put in
is all covered wit bits of cardboard,
old newspapers and litter trays spilling out.

But she loves her cats, she wouldn’t do without them
and she doesn’t mind of they make a little mess
she’s coped this many years with them
and it’s her house so she’ll do what she likes.

And the council isn’t happy because it isn’t hers,
it’s a health risk and the cats have to go
she can’t cope with them, there’s mess everywhere
and they’ll have to go or she’ll have to go.
