Description Believe it or not but this is a painting that is part of my tree series, I painted it about 6 or 7 years ago.
Oil on Canvas 1200mm x 900mm ( 48in x 36in )
These are where we live in the future, the atmosphere is polluted and we build these giant balls, connected with a network of tubes that spread across the surface of the Earth, 100's of meters in the air and they have an artificial atmosphere.
But outside the plant life grows rapidly in the high carbon monoxide atmosphere and eventually push the structures over.
Most of the human population dies out but the ones that survive form tribes which live around the massive trees and use them as a place of worship and to gain wisdom and answers to question of how they should live in harmony with nature.
It all seemed a bit fanciful and as an artist I was told a lot that I would not be seen as a serious artist so I backed away from the series a bit except for the trees.
BUT! I have just seen Avatar, wow, I think my series may start up again, they are so closely related. What a top show.
My painting The Office Bitch is also a part of this series, she is Ct. Memo

If artists can't be a little fanciful from time to time then where's the fun?

I think this is fantastic and I love the concept you've developed. Don't listen to the critics, they don't appreciate imagination!

Yes; and yes you are totally in tune with it and naturally you have 'seen' it coming...so go to the top of the class and godspeed!.
As for avatar in 3d; I just want to keep on going back and stay there too..Brilliant, hey.

Hey mate how was Chrisy, the new year is going to be a blast.
It's rare that I go to the top of the class, more like the corner.
Isn't it a top show, the underlying message is just what I have been painting, it was very upsetting to see that tree come down.
Did you get my email?

Ah Graeme m'dear, I did indeed get your email and do forgive me for not telling you so straight away but I was away for a couple days...but it was sensational and really inspiring but it did make me sob like a baby! What a wonderful dude. Thanks so much for that.
Yeah Chrissy was good - did the late evening dinner thing as it is too freakin' hot here for a roast in the daytime..And yeah we were all bawling when the tree came down in avatar. I think I am gonna see it again if I can before it finishes it's run...It was life changing..but I never wanted to come back down to here again..

Well I dont think its fanciful at all, I think our imagaination gives us a bit of individuality.
The flip side of the coin is how far from the truth will that concept be in years to come.

I really love the concept and the way you used the colours to make the visual impact so striking.

Not been to see Avatar yet, and Im busting to go see it

Thanks Maggie, I have been dragging out all my notes on painting ideas so I will see if I pick up the thread.
We will have to watch ourselves or we will be in some sort of situation in the future.
Go and see the movie and you will know more about my trees, tell me what you think.

I have been hanging out to see the film, I waited with baited breath for the preview lol.

Ohhh sounds like you will be doing more in the future.

Such a striking powerful piece, so pleased Avatar has inspired you to stick to your guns mate, because there's such a message you need to express, and a lot of passion too.
Love the contrasting tones in this piece. Let it flow!

Yeah I going to get all my old notes out and see what happens. I had dozens of ideas written down for paintings but I am maybe thinking that I needed to gain more skills before I got into them. Maybe it was meant to happen this way.

I agree that you got some bad advice there. It sounds and looks like a very viable form of expression. You had something to say that had meaning and they didn't know what they were talking about. You would be taken much more seriously than I would, that's for sure. Wonderful piece, very science fictiony. I like the composition, use of colors and how the line of the metal 'arm', whatever it is, leads back into the background.

I guess it all depends on how I do it.
I think it was good to wait as now I have much more skill to achieve the type of result I would want, some of my ideas will be hard to put into paint.
Thanks for your support Sandi.

Never let the sway of someone's comments turn you away from that which you are linked to emotionally... I think this series would be FABULOUS... you ARE a serious artist, follow your heart!

Yeah I know what your saying but you know how it is, your full of doubt anyhow so I just started doing the trees for myself. I also like doing the portrait work which is getting me a lot of attention but after seeing Avatar I may go back to it more seriously.
That show is carrying the same message, when they attack the big tree I got so angry. Anyhow if you see the show you will think of my trees I am sure. Hope you had a good Christmas.

I don't ever want to sell myself out...
I recently had a drawing selected for gallery in Berlin,
I mailed one today to The Hive Gallery in Los Angeles.... I really don't care if I "make it" or sell work (tho' that is always a nice perk) I guess, I don't feel like I need to please anyone but me... selfish, but true. If others like the work, OK... if they don't, no problem! Seems the most wonderful artistry comes from those who FEEL their work, it shows!
I really need to see Avatar... I guess! My Christmas was outstanding.... enjoying my vacation from school !!!!

I don't feel I sold out, more I think I had my own reservations and was swayed. What I feel now is I have the skills to do the job properly and am armed with much more knowledge and a bit of attitude to go with it lol enough to tell them to bugger off anyhow.
I have been going through all my old notes on paintings I want to do in the series and getting rather excited about it.
Enjoy your holidays the new year is going to be my best painting year yet.
