Chapter 4: The Guardian of Cyra Cave
(A Gardevoir enters the room)
Liloxi: Oh! Hey Queen. You're here early.
Queen: Hey Liloxi, there isn't much activity going on inside the building today. Everyone, including Miya and Pumpkin, decided to discontinue the town clean-up and prepare supplies, then rest. You know everyone's looking for you.
Liloxi: I figured. Hey, Queen, Why don't you come meet the visitor?
Queen: Visitor? OH! Hi there...uh, I don't mean to be rude but why are you in here?
(You attempt to answer until you were thrown off my Liloxi's laughter.)
Liloxi: Haha, relax Queen. Apparently someone sent them to me; most likely Miya or Pumpkin. They wanted to know what lead to all of this and how we became who we are now and...I thought I'd tell them.
Queen: Hmph...Alright, but shouldn't you be preparing? We only have 2 weeks.
Liloxi: Don't worry, I still have a ton of supplies from Cyra Cave in my Bag. For now, I want to rest and enjoy one more day before we begin our journey.
Queen: Yeah, I understand. (Queen sits next to Liloxi then looks at you before sighing.) I'm sorry about that. I can sometimes be a little skeptical, especially when it's something or someone I don't know. I hope you understand.
Liloxi: (mumbles something under his breath. Queen suddenly becomes flustered.)
Queen: I do not! (nudges Liloxi's arm, making him laugh playfully.)
Liloxi: Heh, yes you do...(Liloxi looks at the ground, but Queen face suddenly turns faintly red. After looking at you, Queen nudges Liloxi's arm again and points to you. They both suddenly become flustered.)
Liloxi: Heh, uh, sorry. I-uh...yeah! Queen here is my best friend and we've known each other for a long time now. He's the best swordsman I know. Also, I think it's worth mentioning we both share each other's Auras, but he has better control over it than I do and-huh?
How can I sense Auras?
Well, It's a long story but it happened after Queen here lent me his power and when I tried to return it, somehow both of our Auras became intertwined? I don't know how o explain it but it allows me to sense auras and emotions just like him, but it's not as powerful. We can also sense each other's emotions, allowing us to be able to find each other and even read our thoughts and...I think mine kind "slipped" just now.
Queen: It happens a lot.
Liloxi: I-It does!? Wha-I...
Queen: Don't worry about it, Lilo. Now, where were you in this story of yours?
Liloxi: Oh, right! Let me continue...
*~Outside of Cyra Cave~*
Well, After quickly recovering from the impact of the kick, the Glaceon turned to me and glared. It was now clear that the Glaceon was definitely female. Her voice was serious but quite mellow in a soothing way. Her eyes were crystal blue like mine but unusual in a way, not to mention with a look as if she was hunting prey. Outside of that, what really made her different was her double-pointed ears, both shaped like cherry blossom petals. Usually, Glaceons would have diamond-shaped ears, but not her.
"I'll admit, that was a pretty good kick," she said, her eyes fixed on me as she stalked the dome-like area. I could tell she was ready to attack at any moment and if it was anything like she did the first time, I would be down within a few strikes.
"I assume those other Pokemon that came here earlier were your friends judging by that bag you're holding. They all had one. Consider yourself lucky that you're the first to land a hit on me."
"I wouldn't say lucky," I said keeping my eyes fixed on her. I continued to keep my distance, walking around the dome so she didn't have an opportunity to close some of the distance and get a hit on me.
"But still, I don't want to fight you. I just want to check out the cave."
"Why should I!? you shouldn't be here in the first place!" Quickly, she charged at me with blinding speed. I was fortunate to get that kick in the first time, mostly thanks to the Detect Band, but it was obvious that there was no way I could talk my way out of fighting.
She swiped at me with her claws, but I managed to block it with my arm. Her claws were glowing a bright, bluish color from infusing her power into it, but since it was Ice, it didn't do much.
again, she lunged and swiped at me a few more times, which I managed to dodge in time with the Bandanna's help. But as I dodged the last hit, she turns her body and hits me with her tail, knocking me to the ground. It was clear that I underestimated her and she was skilled at fighting, but her movements were too linear. Regardless, her speed made up for it.
As I attempted to recover, she again lunged straight at me relentlessly, attempting to knock me back down on the ground. Running out of options, I forcefully hit her with an Ice Punch, sending her flying back before hitting the ground. I knew that hit did little damage, but it gave me enough time to get back on my feet. To be honest, damaging an opponent is one thing, but just the sheer force of a hit could be enough to give you time to prepare something even better. Queen knows this better than anyone. (Queen Nods.)
After regaining my balance, I watch as she scrambles back on her feet. She was furious. The look was more towards hatred than just being angry and that alone was unsettling.
Lowing her head, her ears began to glow a bright blue. The snow around the dome started gathering around her. She was preparing a Blizzard.
Within a blink of an eye, she darted her ears forward and the attack shot straight at me, giving me only enough time to try and block it.
Despite it still doing little damage, the attack lifted me off the ground and hurled me against the dome wall. Although the dome was small and somewhat thin, the bits of ice were tightly packed and moving pretty quickly so it felt like I hit a solid wall. It was enough for me to injure my right arm a bit, but it wasn't enough to stop me from using it; I'm stubborn like that.
Before I could get up, I watched as she gathers more snow and prepared for another Blizzard.
"Just give up already," she said, focusing her power on the next attack. Before I could respond, the second attack launched itself at me, but with quick thinking, I instantly used Blizzard myself, deflecting the attack. Seeing this, the Glaceon looked at me with a mix of anger and confusion.
"What? how did you block it so quickly?" She said, her eyes beaming with anger.
"You're not the only one who uses Ice," I replied, slowly picking myself back up. The pain from hitting the dome shot through my arm, but I knew I had to focus. If I would've taken my eyes off her, even for a second, she would use that opportunity to attack me without a second thought. Her way of fighting was reckless, but her attacks packed a punch if it made contact. It kinda reminded me of when I was younger...
"I've seen Lopunnies here once or twice, but never have I seen one who uses more than one Ice move. I'm still wondering how you're able to withstand the blizzard I set in this dome. Tck, whatever. It won't matter once I send you back where you came from!" Just as she finished speaking, she charged toward me, but not as fast as before. This time, her teeth were glowing blue, but something was odd. It seemed as if she was trying to change the move's type as it had a mix of coloration. Regardless, It was definitely draining her energy very quickly.
Preparing myself, I started charging an Ice Beam but clenched my teeth to hide it until she got closer (Something I don't recommend. Frozen teeth isn't fun). As she jumped and attempting to Bite, I sidestepped as her teeth nearly grazing my arm and launched the Ice Beam at her. Unlike the first time, this one seemed to hit a weak spot. The impact knocks her out of the air and sends her tumbling to the other side of the dome. Finally, I did some damage, but I could tell it wasn't over yet.
I watched as she got up once again, trying to stand, but one of her legs way somewhat unsteady. It was clear she was injured, but the look in her eyes were still the same. To make things worse, the attack she used earlier left my other arm in more pain than the first despite only grazing it; hopefully, it wasn't Toxic. The pain stung worse than getting a cut on your arm. As annoying as it was, I still need to fight.
Suddenly, she roared loudly as her eyes, ears, and ribbons started glowing an ominous purple. A small ball of darkness started to take form in front of her. Looking closely, shards of ice was developing in the center of the attack, creating a fusion I was more than familiar with.
"Jazz taught her that move..." I said to myself. It was the same move she taught me when I was around 5 years old and she was the one who created it. I continued to watch as the Shadow Ball continued to grow. The amount of power she was putting into it was absurd; enough to basically rip apart a Pokemon's soul. No one in their right mind would use that much power unless they were planning on killing someone or their only option. Regardless, it wasn't looking good for me. I only had one more move that could probably fend her Shadow Ball; I just wasn't looking forward to it since it also hurts me. Ignoring the thought, I began channeling heat towards one of my hands as she readies her attack.
"I don't know what you're up to, but you had your chance to give up! I'M END THIS..."
Wasting no time, she hurled the Shadow Ball at me. Just as it got near, I channeled as much energy as I could into my hand, causing it to burst into flames.
Quickly I held out my hand and I caught the Shadow Ball, holding it back as it continued to push forward. The immense energy and pressure continuously attempted to push me back, caused the ground to shake and the dome to flicker.
In the distance, I watched as her eyes widen in disbelief. However, she wasn't ready to give up just yet. Using whatever she had left, she started glowing again and the Shadow Ball began to grow even more. At that moment, I had no idea where she was getting any more power since the Shadow Ball she launched was at least half my height, which takes a lot of energy for anyone that wasn't a [Ghost Type]...and no, she wasn't a Ghost Type.
Within moments, the ground started to crack from the pressure as her attack grew. The strain it was leaving on my body was unimaginable. I'm not sure if I've ever mentioned this, but I used to be Ice/Ghost before becoming Ice/Normal.
~~~~~
Queen: Yeah, I remember you mentioning that a while back, not too long after I met you.
Liloxi: Mhm, but even though I have Normal in me, I could still feel the force it had as if my Ghost Typing was still there. I thought it would be a good time for me to bring it up, especially since my buddy likes to keep note of things.
Queen:...About that...why are you so curious about our past events?
Liloxi: Queen relax! Th-
(You stop Liloxi for a moment, assuring him that it's alright and begin explaining your purpose)
Queen: Oh! Wow, this makes sense now. Why didn't you say that sooner?
Liloxi: (Chuckles) probably because you were being an overprotective fireball again.
Queen: I-you-...keep it up and ima melt your bed into a pool of water after we get through with this "adventure"
Liloxi: (Chuckles some more) Alright, alright, sorry. Let's continue.
~~~~~
After seeing that she wasn't giving up and the Shadow ball wasn't slowing down, I knew I only had one option left.
With all the power I had left, I force it into both of my hands until they both flared up into an ominous, dark flame. The moment it changed, It surprised both her and me.
"What is that..." She said, looking at my hands. Little did she know, I was just as confused as she was as my hand continued to be covered in the dark flame. The flame didn't hurt me, but seeing that it was actually doing a better job than the fire I tried to summon, I suddenly decided to do something risky. (Queen glares at him.)
While holding Shadow Ball, I punch it using my other hand with such force, it launched itself back at the Glaceon with blinding speed. Before she could move away, her own attack instantly explodes before hitting her. The power of the explosion caused me to slide back while launching her through the dome wall, somehow shattering it as if it was glass. Hitting the ground, she continued sliding until slamming against the side of the mountain. As the blizzard began to subside, I was able to see the entrance of the cave, not too far from where she landed.
Walking closer, I looked over at her as wasn't moving, but still breathing.
"That probably wasn't a good idea after all..." I said as I moved closer. Despite how much damage she did to me, I'm not the kind of Pokemon to leave another injured the same way she was. Before I could check on her, I began to hear a faint rumble of some sort, followed by the ground shaking.
Looking up I realized rumbling was the sound of an avalanche making its way down the mountain towards us. Surprisingly, The Glaceon was still conscious and saw the avalanche coming down, but couldn't move because of her injuries.
Despite all the pain I was in, I picked her up and ran for the entrance. I while holding her, she struggled a bit, but ignoring it and made my way inside. As soon as we did, the Avalanche crashed down, covering the entrance with an unbelievable amount of snow.
"That can't be good..." laying her down gently as eyes weakly glared at me. It was obvious we were going to be in the cave for a while and since I didn't have any Escape Orbs on me (Another thing I forgot), we had very little means of escape.
*~Cyra Cave Entrance~*
Looking around, I find some stick and twigs that probably made it's way into the cave over time from the frozen trees nearby. Holding my hand out, I summoned a small flame and used it to light the stick, making a campfire. (You have no idea how uncomfortable it is to use fire.)
Finishing up, I kneeled down next to the Glaceon; her gazed still filled with anger.
"What do you want from me!" She said in a stern voice. The sound of her voice caused me to wince a little, probably because I hear that line too many times in the past, in a similar scenario.
"I'm just checking your injuries. That fight did a number on both of us." I said while checking her paws for injuries. I might've been in a ton of pain, but get her healed first was my top priority. She was in worse shape than I was.
Before I could check the other paw, she quickly snatched it away from me and swats at me.
"I'm fine," She snapped, slowly laying her paw back down. It was clear it was in pain.
"Why are you still trying to help me after all of that?"
"I'm not the kind of Pokemon who ignores another Pokemon in need of help," I said, looking back at her with a serious face. "I'm also a member of a Rescue Team called 'Team Silver'."
"Whatever, you shouldn't be here. This place is to remain free of outsiders," She growled.
"Well, I'm not an outsider," I said flatly; My tone somewhat catching her off guard.
"The Island is my home; I was born here. My ice attack should have ga-AHH!" Before I could finish, a sharp pain shot through both my arms as if I got punched by a Rhyhorn.
"Hmph, apparently I'm not the only one who needs help," She said smugly.
"That attack you did back there was cheap. I've never seen it before...it even deflected my Shadow Ball as if it was nothing, but it looks like it came with a consequence."
"Doesn't matter," I said without looking at her and went back to check for injuries. She fought a little, snarling at me as I tried to check her arms and legs, but she gave up midway seeing that I was determined to help her.
"You wanted to fight and I fought and mind you, I don't like to fight. Because of it, you're in worse shape than me and there is no way you can recover from this on your own so hold still."
Checking her wounds again, I realized I was correct about her left leg being injured so immediately I started mending it with some fresh bandages I usually kept with me, along with her two front paws, forehead, and abdomen (That apparently was the "Weak spot" my Ice Beam hit).
After applying bandages, I gave her an Oran Berry I packed to get her energy back up. Surprisingly she ate it without putting up too much of a fight.
Next, it was time for me to get some bandages on my own arms. That attack, along with the flames took a lot out of me when using it and on top of that, she was able to get a few good hits in with her claws and teeth, not to mention the near-miss that took some of my fur off my ear.
As I worked on bandaging my arm, I looked over at her for a moment to find her staring into the campfire. Before I could say anything, she spoke first.
"Alright, what's your name, Puffbull?" She asked.
"You can call me 'Zero'," I responded. "And please don't call me that."
"Not happening," She said, turning carefully to look at me. "Your tail is bigger than any other Lopunny I've seen looks like a huge piece of cotton. Also, your eyes are a different color..."
"Yeah, I know, I'm different. But so are you," I said, pointing to her ears, causing her to flatten them and growl at me.
"But that's not important right now. Can you tell me why are you were guarding the Cave?"
"...I was sent to guard this place not too long ago, ever since a weird Pokemon covered in darkness showed up at the cave looking to find something that would make them stronger. Power-hungry If you asked me." She said, looking back at the campfire.
"They're probably looking for the Artifact..." I said, she quickly turns back around and gives me a questionable look.
"How did you know about that? No one else was supposed to know it existed."
"A local, most likely an elder, went seeking help back at in town. That's why some Elite Guild Members were sent to come here, including me."
Before I could continue, she cut me off, in a bit of rage.
"The locals shouldn't have asked for outsiders to come here! True, it may have been my fault that some of your members were hurt in the process, but they shouldn't have came here regardless. I was told to protect this cave at all costs!"
Thinking about what she said for a moment, something struck me.
"Who sent you to guard this place?"
"If you were born here, you should know who has power over the island." She said, still looking at me. Hearing this, my eyes widen.
"W-wait, you're telling me Jazz sent you here?" I exclaimed, shouting a bit too loudly.
"Duh," She said rolling her eyes (Queen rolls his eyes as soon as Liloxi said it and Liloxi elbows him, making him laugh.). Oddly, the color in one of her eyes was shifting when she did that, but I ignored it at the time.
"Why are you so surprised?"
"Jazz is the one who raised me since I was a baby," I said, smiling.
"SHE raised YOU?" She shouted, almost leaping out of her bandages. I could tell it hurt, but she didn't show much sign of pain, probably due to all the excitement...and the Oran Berry.
"Yep!" I nodded. "But I haven't seen her in a year. Is she still on the Island?"
"Yeah, she still lives at that huge house," She responded.
"I still can't believe she raised you.
"Well, Believe it," I said proudly.
"Now, how about we go through the cave in a few days, after you're feeling better?"
"Whoa, whoa. You think it's that easy?" She said, raising a brow.
I didn't protect the cave just to keep the Artifact safe, heck, there's someone in the cave for that already. I guarded it to keep outside from wandering in and getting lost in the cave forever.
"Lost? What's so special about this cave?"
"Hmm, well I could tell ya...under three conditions
"You can't be serious. We need food and other supplies if we're going to be here for a few days, not to mention finding a way out."
"I'm one of three Pokemon who know how this cave works, but if you insist then...Happy Hunting!"
"Grr... Alright, Alright," I said, giving in.
"what are they?"
"1) Help me recover until I'm well enough to fight again
2) Don't try anything funny or I will use what power I have to end you.
3) When we get out, I want one of those bandannas."
She said, pointing to the one tied around my ear. "That's a Detect Band, isn't it? That's probably why you were able to dodge me so well."
"That and Snow Cloak, but it wasn't visible. Anyways, I don't have another one, but I do have this Special Band I don't use much. you can have it if you like." I said, taking the bandanna out of my bag.
"Hmm, it'll do for now." She said as I tie it around her arm, "But I want a Detect Band."
"Sure, of course," I said, keeping my word.
As I finish tying the bandanna around her arm, She laid back down and went back to looking at Fire.
"The name's Gwen, by the way." She said without looking at me.
"Gwen...sounds familiar..." I said as I stood up. I knew my arms weren't healed, but we needed supplies and it wasn't a good idea to wait.
"Huh? where are you going?"
"I want to check the first few floors to see if there are any supplies, we need it"
"Well, this cave has a lot of berry around, but very little apples. I can tell you where to find them, but I have a personal favor to ask before you go."
"What's that?"
"Teach me how to use Fire," She said, looking at her paw.
"What? but you're Ice!"
"you are too, so I don't see why I can't learn it."
Honestly, she was right but from my knowledge, I don't know any fire moves that Ice Pokemon like her can use right away...except one...
"There is one more I could teach you, but I'll teach you when we get out. it can only be used outside." I said remembering something I'm glad I got before leaving town...of course with some persuasion.
"Alright, it's a deal then"
she proceeded to tell me which rooms tend to have more Items in them on each the first 3 floors.
With the information she gave me, I headed into the cave but struck me. I began noticing that the cave was not like any other cave I'd been to.
It was something out of a dream...
