Description Oshitari Yuushi from Tennis no Oujisama, and for some reason in my head i keep calling him "Yuu-hi". >_> (Someone pls help me come up with a proper title for this one.)

Watch as Oshitari demonstarates the wrong way to hold a bouquet of flowers (this coming from someone whos parents once ran a flower shop). To be fair, the flowers weren't supposed to be there in the first place. And there is definitely something wrong with the arms ;__;

That aside, I LOVE THIS PIECE TO BITS. Colour pencils are therapeutic, i swear. <---suffering from pre-exam anxiety attacks

Wanted to have the coat in moss-green, as suggested by a friend, and i really did want to colour it in green, but that was before i decided that it would clash horribly with his hair. Speaking of the hair, i choose to ignore the fact that the shading doesn’t exist, because the whole colour scheme of this drawing is pale, fluffy tones anyway XDXD Also tried experimenting with colour layers for once (interesting how pink overlayed with dark blue will produce brown instead of the purple you expect); i think the effect's good, but i need more practise. Lots of it. As you can see I got a bit lost with the striped pants. And the flowers, ugh the flowers.

Wasn't quite sure about his eye colour and didn't bother to check

And very random background because I can’t afford to spend too much time on these things ATM.

More on the flowers. I suppose they're yellow peacocks. Am very tempted to do a 'flower series' with a drawing for each PoT character XD Atobe would be gerberas, tulips for Jirou, and i'd stuff Sengoku with sunflowers.

Time: 5-6 hours, spread out over 3 days.
Paper: 135 gsm for the lovely grainy effect
Tools: 0.3 unipen for inking, Stablo water colour pencils for colouring. Photoshop 7 for background.

Wow!It's beautiful!!!!I wish I had photoshop.......Not like it would make my boy drawing any better....I'm still working on my Masaharu/Shirashi/Oshitari graffitii-uniformed notebook drawing which will later be transferred to a actual acid-free drawing pad.....Any good recommendations for supplies I should get when I go art-shopping for Christmas? The only option I have is Spectrum Art(store),so is there a certain set of markers I should get that are cheap and high-quality?

Just to clarify, i didn't actually use Photoshop for this drawing, except for the background.

I don't know much about markers, but most people agree that the Japanese Copics are awesome for colouring and blending, though they're pricey. Good luck!

You could call the picture "Yellow Peacocks [Flowers]" since that's what you say he's (maybe) holding.
It would be fun to see Atobe, Jirou, and Sengoku holding flowers.
In official pictures...Atobe is seen holding a red rose a lot.
I think the most suitable flower for Atobe would be Naricussus. XP

Ah yes, that's a nice title. Thanks. But it just occured to me that changing the title means it would appear on other ppl's deviation watch list and clog up their inbox ;__; I don't want that to happen. But i'll keep that in mind for next time ^_^

I don't want to draw Atobe with roses because it's such a... stereotype (even though Atobe IS rose, so i don't make sense). I've checked on the meanings of flowers, maybe i'll draw based on that XD

So cool! I love how you colored skin, can you tell me what combination of colors you used to get the skin color?

Muahaha. Let's see if i can remember... *got too carried away with the layering*

For the base alone, pale yellow first and then peach, then light brown (because Oshitari has darker skin). Then for shadows i used darker shades of brown, red, orange.... basically eveything in that colour range >_> That's not much help is it.

heh ... well if ya ask me ... the pinkish blue coat color is a bit wierd ... i tot u combo tho manually with color pencils xD ... the hand is wierd as in the pose i suppost? coz it is fairly unnatural to put in this pose XD sorta ... but overall still doing great taking the time u spend overall for this ^^ really becoming pro already nei XD

graffitee In reply to rylands [2005-11-07 09:42:33 +0000 UTC]

Yep, i used pink+dark blue for the base and then overlayed with grey, and black for the shadows. The pink highlights were a mistake >_> Sad thing about trad. colouring is you can't edit anything TT_TT

fufufu, far from being a pro, but thank you ne~
