B-Wing! Always been my favorite starfighter from the Rebel Alliance side. Used to fly it as a kid in Star Wars: X-Wing game. ^^

Those were B-wing pilots, as it happens. You can tell from the red flightsuits.

Wrong. One of the women was an A-Wing pilot played by Poppy Hands (the one who says "Got him!" with two TIE Interceptors behind her, and gets shot down) but the voice was redubbed by a man.

Another was an X-wing pilot named Dorovio Bold played by French model Vivienne Chandler, whose scenes were cut entirely. She would have been killed during the assault on the Death Star surface when her stabilizer was damaged by ground fire, and apparently also had a full page's worth of dialogue, so would have had a pretty substantial role during the battle. There's a small bit of BTS footage of her in the cockpit mockup from the sequence where she reports her stabilizer damage, but AFAIK not enough of her actual footage survived.

A couple of women pilots in X-wing/Y-wing flight suits can also be seen in the wide shots of the briefing room scene (one of them MAY be Chandler, but I'm not sure).

The B-wing pilot ones were just foremost in my mind because I was thinking of the B-wing cockpit footage I saw on a deleted scene reel.
I really do hope the B-wing sequences are resurrected some day. From the sound of the dialogue there seems to have been some awesomeness of them blowing a Star Destroyer to hell.
