Yes, I never quite got that one without assuming it was rude. He didn't say 'I've already got two' though, he just said the first bit. There were also a few jokes about 'turtle heads' (ie. the mask) in that episode - very racy for the early 60s!

slappy427 In reply to Granitoons [2008-01-03 21:11:50 +0000 UTC]

hold tight...hopfully they are coming for you! i have always been fascinated with the cartoon goings on in Britain. for instance, did shows like Top (Boss) Cat, the Flintstones and Hair Bear Bunch make a splash there at the same time they were popular here? it seems to me from what little research i can find, that those shows came out later in Britain and became hits with merchandise and what have you, but in later decades than when they primiered here. also with Hong Kong Phooey and Captain Caveman.

Granitoons In reply to slappy427 [2008-01-03 21:27:44 +0000 UTC]

Yes - mention Hanna Barbera here and half of the UK will think of The FLintstones and the other half will say Hong Kong Phooey and Scooby Doo. Top Cat was definately a big hit in the UK (moreso than in the US I believe) as was The Phil Silvers Show ironically! I'm too young to remember it being redubbed Boss Cat. The Hair Bear Bunch was reasonably popular for a while too and most folk have heard of Yogi Bear too, despite the fact that he's not been on TV for years. Wacky Races and their spin-offs are also well-known. I distinctly remember Wally Gator, Touche Turtle and Lippy & Hardy being shown after the Channel 4 News daily. Them and the Laurel & hardy shorts or Batfink (noy HB I know, but I remember it!)

Seems the UK is more familiar with the later HB shows, though personally I prefer the older ones on the whole.

Hoooh BOY!

No one can deny watching the Flintstones. The early seasons were fun and nicely drawn. Some fans think that they "jumped the shark" when they were toned down from their (light) adult humour and/or when they brought in The Great Gazoo. Heck, so long as it still makes me laugh, why complain?

And man, love those wacky feet you drew!

Granitoons In reply to QwertyChris [2007-12-23 16:07:15 +0000 UTC]

Patta-pattapittapatta feet!

I always loved it when Fred mocked someone who was annoying him, and I can see now why Barney annoys him! Barney's a sweet guy but you've got to sypathise with Fred sometimes!

Shychick In reply to Granitoons [2009-05-13 03:32:47 +0000 UTC]

Yes. Barney's hilarious, but sometimes he can be a smart-ass or an asshole. A huge example is when Barney spent the night at Fred's place. He gobbled up the biggest peice of cake of the last two slices, hogged Fred's bed like it was his own... he was really annoying in that one!

Wilma: Fred... can't you be a little more considerate?
Fred: *growling angrily*

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

Granitoons In reply to Shychick [2009-05-13 16:14:19 +0000 UTC]

FRED: I'd have been a gentleman, I'd have taken the smaller one.
BARNEY: Well you got it, so what're you kickin' about!
FRED: WHY YOU!!!

I also love how Wilma and Betty fell out at the end. I'd have given anything to see a full episode like that with the girls falling out Fred & Barney style for a change!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Shychick In reply to Granitoons [2009-05-13 20:59:22 +0000 UTC]

LOL, yeah, I so remember that dialogue about the cake.

And when he's pissed that he stole his bed, and Wilma's bitching at him:

"No, Wilma, just tucking Barney in cozy-comfy!"

Man, it's been way too long since I've seen any eps. Shocked how great the 'ol memory is after all this time!
