Description Two of the most dangerous women of the Rogue Isles, the Countess Ivy and her patron, hold court.

This was a really fun piece for me to tackle. I had never been called upon to do Ghost Widow before but after working her into this painting, I have come to dearly love that character. It took me a while to get her face right, but as it stands, I am exceptionally pleased with it. Beyond that, I really got into Countess Ivy's leathers. i really think I've hit my dead animal skin stride and only hope I get more commissions for tight leather

Medium: Watercolor, india ink, and colored pencil on 300lbs hot pressed watercolor paper.

I've played COV and COH since launch. And this is easily one of the best pieces of "fan-art" I've ever seen for them .
Very good job, especially on Ghost Widow. I just made her my patron recently =0)

Well, she is the coolest of the spider lot, so it's only natural

Glad you like this piece though! It almost made it into one of NC's ezines a couple of years back until the art director noticed the heart in the hand... they had to cut it to keep things Teen.

I'm sure you could have just convinced them that she is a butcher and thats a cow heart.
I might have to get you to draw my Ninja MM with Darkness. How much would you charge for a piece like the rooftop fight scene?

Looks like you changed the costume pieces around to make them look more realistic. I like the metalic reflection you gave to some of Ghost widow's costume parts; much better than the bleach white color's you see in-game!

To be honest, i never saw her in game but once and my graphics card isn't too good. I was working off of some screenshots others had gotten as well as the splash of her for CoV adverts. Those just added up to the most logical ways for her costume to be constructed... and in this game, for logic's sake, liberties have to be taken now and again

Glad it all worked out in the end though!

I love the faces, especially GW's. So beautiful, but there is no deny the malevolence that simmers under the surface. GW just looks haughty, a perfect image of her, as well as a tand condescending towards Ivy (with the hand on her head, like some pet). Just lovely.

Thanks! I was so excited about doing a piece with GW in it. She had to be my favorite part of the whole piece

This looks really good. I would have liked to see that hazy background texture at the bottom of the throne continue to the top of the piece as well. I do agree though that the leather came out nice!

graver13 In reply to JomaroKindred [2006-11-30 20:14:21 +0000 UTC]

Hummm... ya, i could see where that would have been good. I'll definitely have to make sure I don't split the background on the next one quite the way it happened here. I was just a bit leery of heaping too much paint on the background, especially close to the borders, but a touch more would have been good.

Thanks for the eye!

Man, I love your paint style. All of the little textures you get in there. Ivy's pants, for example, look like leather (not the patent kind, but the well worn kind.)

My only constructive comment, if you don't mind me giving one, is that Ivy's hips look off center. Her left hip seems to bulge out further than it should given her pose.

Still, it's a darn fine piece! Nice work!

graver13 In reply to Megumiko [2006-11-23 16:59:30 +0000 UTC]

Hrm, ya, I can see that now that you point it out. Her hips were actually the toughest part of the work and ended up having to be reworked a couple of times. I guess they could have stood to be reworked another few... though I think the paper would have given out before then

Thanks though!

Thank ya, thank ya! And I'm almost ashamed to admit it, but those li'l snappers at her feet almost didn't make it into the piece. And her corset had to be redone several times, glad it came out though, and I'm glad you like it enough to grace it with , thanks!
