Description A commissioned piece for ~POPNDOUGH featuring his character, Peprally, the ultra powerful cheerleader given mighty muscles by a rod of uranium (or possibly plutonium, I can't remember clearly) that she mistook for a spirit stick.

This was, no doubt, a fun piece to work on. I got to be a touch silly with it which I've been dying to do for some time now -I can only be serious for so long. It took some back and forth with ~POPNDOUGH to get the layout right as we bounced ideas off of one another, but eventually settled on the idea of her protecting some football players from the monstrous Captain Mako.

Originally, the football players were going to be menaced by the shark and pep was going to be calling him off of them, but being obviously bored with the whole thing. However, the idea struck to have the big tough football players huddling in fear behind Peprally for protection and I just couldn't let it go... it amused me far too much. The rest of the piece just fell in after that.

In painting it, it did take an unexpected turn. While putting in the background the painting started falling apart a bit. Fallowing Stars suggestions on streaking in green into the sky area however snapped everything back together and started taking the painting in a slightly different direction then initially intended. It begin taking on a horror movie 9or more like teen slasher movie) feel too it. Wholly unintentional, but I like the results. And hell, a mutant shark terrorizing high school sports teams and cheerleaders... that seems like standard modern slasher movie fare to me

Medium: pen and ink and watercolor on 300lbs hot pressed watercolor paper.

After trying a little more serious painting recently, I find myself looking at your watercolor stuff with alot more appreciation. The grass at her feet has a wonderful silky texture, the almost sickly colors behind them in those interesting salmon, flesh, and a green colors look great as they bleed into the old cracked feel at the top that looks like you cracked the paper itself with your brush. And the black kinda.. hatch mark looking shading it looks like you did with a quill or something is so subtle and finely detailed that it blends pleasingly into the colors, and I love the way you got that mist around her feet looking.

Also the football players are wonderfully goofy,
great job man.

Ya, serious painting stuff will do that to ya, be careful! Thanks though!

As for the sky, I just have a weird obsession / attraction to cracked wals, paintings, leather... well, cracked anything. When I do large areas of subtle blending in paintings, in areas where the blending is not as smoth as it should be, I start seeing the cracks... and then i can't help but to highlight said cracks. It's a sick compulsion

And those hatch marks were actually made with a .005 pen(s) of various colors.

I think there was a Buffy episode like that once...

Mako: Note to self: Black Scorpy never hears of this. Ever.

Awesome expressions all around, you should do goofy more often

Hell, i try to do humor every chance I get. It's just usually when faced with [bad ass pose 1] [suppa cool fight 2] and [sillyness] most of my commissioners chuckle at #3 and then chose 1 or 2. i do so love the ones who run wild with choice #3

I love how Pep is yawning with boredom, even as she flashes the 'lusah' sign at the bloodied Cap'n Mako.

Thanks! It just seemed like a Pep kinda thing for her to be doing. I was told to make her look bored, but her being a cheerleader, i figured she'd have to flash the L as well
