Description Found metal

This piece was made in Welded Sculpture From Found Objects at the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts in Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA.

The design ran through a few stages as I tried different ideas with my newbie skill level, and the items I had or found. I originally wanted to do something a bit more art nouveau, but moved towards simpler, art deco styles as I found different pieces.

The main inspiration was the bike wheel. The first one I found was aluminium, and I was fortunate that the instructor had a steel one, which is more forgiving with welding. The center decorative post was found in class, as well as some of the longer metal frame pieces. Others I found at the scrap yard and my mother's new house. The chain was another lucky scrap yard find.

Now, most room dividers have screens, and I may add something at some point. I have some ideas, but right now this is working wonderfully in my space just as it is. If you visit my scrap page you'll be able to see how I've utilized it for Christmas.
