The inscription on the gravestone is "Her book was empty, but her heart was full", and the book below is indeed empty. Nothing special behind, just a randomly appeared detail.
The post with emblem is some kind of a local chapel and meant to bring hope and encourage you. (Actually have this sign printed hanging over my workplace for the same purpose. It helps.)
