Description Type-11 Energy Projectile Rifle - Chris's Ultimate Armory of Badass

The Energy Musket is an energy-projectile weapon which fires a 15mm, plasma-saboted spherical projectile carrying a powerful thermal energy charge to the target. It uses a pulsed UV laser to ignite or “activate” each round, which is then accelerated electromagnetically between two dorsal rails which form the twin “prongs” of the weapon. Each round packs a substantial energy charge, exploding on impact to make up for the relatively low muzzle velocity when compared to conventional gunpowder firearms.

A pulsed, solid-state UV laser ionizes and superheats the projectile's hydrogen fuel layer, which reacts with the projectile's copper based outer shell to create a self-sustaining plasma reaction in and around the projectile that boosts its penetrative power...the plasma-saboted projectile is accelerated magnetically between two rare-earth magnetic prongs that are used in lieu of a conventional barrel.

16th century gone plasma-powered. Hell. Yes.

Yep, you're right. I was definitely going for that sort of look, as it is the Kyrdan Empire's aesthetic. They're basically medieval tech meets steampunk tech meets sci-fi alien tech in the vein of the Covenant from Halo. They are a very fun faction to do concepts for.

Looks nice. It appeals to my appeal for sort of classic look to weapons such as having wood stocks and so on.

Stay tuned. I have had a better version in the works since mid-late November, with such improvements as a larger mag that can hold up to 55 rounds (the small, cylindrical mag shown here just won't cut it, and is incapable of holding the 75 rounds described in the picture itself,) a raised stock that can actually function as a stock when firing from the shoulder (don't worry, it's still made of hardwood,) a leather-wrapped grip for added control, and more pretty, glowy lights. I have the lineart finished (it can be viewed here: fav.me/d6cvu6q) and all I need to do is add the decorations and draw a higher-quality final version.

Nah you're fine, go ahead and say it. The Covenant were one of my biggest influences on the weapons and technology of the Kyrdan knights. I take it you think it looks like Reach's plasma repeater, because that was actually one of my main influences for this weapon. However, I have since changed its design somewhat significantly and am fast approaching a final draft, one which doesn't look QUITE as much like a plasma repeater.

Yeah, I just discovered that about it...I'm correcting the stock in a future version of the weapon. Thanks for telling me :3

You know, I wonder what would happen if someone attempted to shoot a moose with this. XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Great-5 In reply to mr-bigmouth-502 [2012-11-18 19:36:49 +0000 UTC]

Hmm...let's see here. It fires 15mm explosive, incendiary, spherical projectiles encased in superheated plasma that can burn or melt through most armor materials, and then explode. The plasma jacket surrounding the projectile is about 5,250 degrees C, while the plasma from the explosion is hotter still, at around 7,000 degrees C...hot enough to melt tungsten. Now if you shot a soft, fleshy, unarmored target such as a moose, the superheated energy from the explosion would probably vaporize a nice clean hole in the unfortunate moose's side, and all areas adjacent to the impact hole would be burned to a crisp. A near miss would still probably cause severe 3rd or 4th-degree burns to exposed flesh, and all blood would be flash-vaporized, cauterizing the wound immediately. So yeah, you could use it for hunting, but I'd recommend setting it to be semi-automatic so you don't go burning tons of wayward holes in the animal you're trying to hunt, especially if you intend to dress, clean and cook the hunted animal for dinner, or make its hide into leather. Nobody's gonna want moose steak with tons of burnt parts, and I don't think any trading post would want a leather hide with big holes burned in it.

Yeah that's a good point. Also stay tuned, I am still fine-tuning the design of this gun. I needed to raise up the stock so it can actually function as a stock (it's too low here) and I need to expand the capacity of the magazine.

Energy...Musket...I'll take two. The ergonomic's seem to be something the Covenant would use to impale people XD

You'll take two? These things are almost 18 lbs apiece fully-loaded, good luck dual-wielding them...the H'ruun, the aliens who use these, are considerably stronger than humans.

Thanks. I was a little concerned that the stock was too low and thus couldn't function effectively (that's what my roommate said,) but I guess not.

CzechBiohazard In reply to Great-5 [2012-11-22 23:17:49 +0000 UTC]

You're welcome. :3

Well, realistically that's true. However, it's clearly a sci-fi design, and many professional sci-fi weapons are very impractical. So, it's fine in my book.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Great-5 In reply to CzechBiohazard [2012-11-23 17:07:07 +0000 UTC]

Well I am still going to raise the stock and update the design a bit. Me and my friend gave this weapon a good look-over, and he also saw the small, stubby cylinder of a magazine, and pointed out that if the rounds are 15mm spheres, it could hold maybe ten, twenty at most if the magazine is helical (which it is.) So I've already raised the stock up for the third (and hopefully final) design, and what I'm gonna do is also go with my friend's suggestion and replace the small cylindrical mag with a larger curved mag that curves around the circular handguard to the base of the stock. We found out that if the magazine is like that, it might be able to hold up to fifty rounds...a definite improvement from twenty.
