"Maxine Thorne. The infamous One-Eyed Lioness herself. Within the Golden Skulls gang, she is held as an example to follow. From a lowly grunt, she clawed her way to the position of a Lieutenant, bringing the gang much infamy and riches in the process. She crushed many enemies in her path. Heroes, law enforcement, rival villains and sometimes fellow Golden Skulls who got in her way. Proved she is more than mere brute, as she managed to whip her subordinates into proper fighting shape and made them follow her out of genuine respect, and managed to secure some lucrative deals for the gang through diplomacy and misdirection. Even the later revelation why she worked so tirelessly to achieve such status, namely her trying to save her sister Amelie from a terminal disease, did not diminish her reputation. While some of her rivals within her gang want to claim she is actually soft-hearted and weak, Maxine more than happy to silence these claims with a bolt of lighting or a well placed fist to the face. At times, Maxine just WAITS for them to make a wrong move, to have them challenge her, to let her justifably bash their faces in. It's no secret she loves to fight, and trying to provoke her into a fight is often a bad idea.

The inner circle of Golden Skulls eagerly watches her growth. Her strength, competence and ambition tempered by her loyalty to the gang make her a prime candidate to be a future Captain and member of the inner circle. Following the appearance of new heroes, such as Miraclaw and her New Guardians, as well as the admission of a new police commissioner, resulted in some vacant spots in the upper echelons of the gang's command structure. Someone needs to fill them in. And, some of the top brass, including Maxine's mentor, The Viper, want Maxine to prove herself that she is deserving to join them.

That knowledge alone fills Maxine with a desire to prove herself. And, a desire to claim her revenge on those that bested her or undermind her plans. If anything, now they unleashed a beast willing to unleash a thunderstorm and break anyone foolish enough to step into the ring!
