Description I really, really like the SW-XAII "Schneegans," which is a Kawamori-designed Variable Fighter with stealth characteristics. However, it's non-canonical (to the best of my knowledge). I opted to scan it in, clean it up, and add the distinctive "hip vents" from the related SW-XAI "Schneeblume" (which otherwise is little more than a rough design for the VF-0). Also used the XAI's head as an A-type and the XAII's head as an S-type.

I decided to name this thing the VF-18 pretty arbitrarily. I chose the name "Metal Siren" because it works and because I loathe the visual design of the real Metal Siren from Macross II. Anything I can do to help the original Metal Siren fade into the realm of the forgotten is a win in my book.

BTW, here's the Fighter mode: [link]
and here's the Gerwalk mode: [link]

Disclaimer:
I didn't draw this. I don't own Macross. All rights to the owners. No profits made from this. It's all just for fun.

Is this like a transformer, but power armor?

I don't understand the question.

Is it a mech suit( a suit of armor controlled by one person, and the armor has built in weapons)?

Grebo-Guru In reply to Zowen2001 [2015-10-15 11:13:01 +0000 UTC]

It's a giant robotic vehicle. It's a fighter plane flown by a pilot, which can transform into a humanoid form that is still controlled by the pilot; it also has an intermediate, hybrid mode.

So it's power armor that works like a transformer.

I tend to think of power armor as being something you wear, rather than something you pilot, but yes.
Here, watch the opening to Macross, which this is from.

So more like Titanfall?

Grebo-Guru In reply to Zowen2001 [2015-10-16 19:07:15 +0000 UTC]

Exactly. Titanfall is inspired by Japanese animation shows like Macross (the one I showed you) and many others.

I see. It also inpired governments and private companies to start researching ways to build power armor and exoskeletons to put on people to make them weapons.

Well it all stems from the Starship Troopers novel.

That's a good book. Sadly, the movie sucked and didn't have exo suits.

You're correct on all counts.

yeah, me being American, I grew up with the Robotech version and later in life learned about the macross version

Grebo-Guru In reply to yellowsmoke321 [2013-05-22 22:05:32 +0000 UTC]

Excuses, excuses! I'm American too, and I knew Macross first.
Of course, back in 1982 I lived in New York city... easier to learn about anime there than in most of the country.

fair enough, no argument from me.

Love the design. I always had a soft spot for Macross. Didn't liked Macross II or 7, but Macross Plus was awesome. Love the three modes. For me Gerwalk seems the hardest to design being an hybrid, but you managed it quite well.

Grebo-Guru In reply to Losrandir [2013-05-22 04:50:13 +0000 UTC]

Well thanks, but I didn't design this. I just scanned it in and colored it. It was drawn by the man himself, Shoji Kawamori, creator of Macross.

๐Ÿ‘: 1 โฉ: 1

Losrandir In reply to Grebo-Guru [2013-05-22 21:56:30 +0000 UTC]

I love Kawamori's work (and your colour suits well). Oh, and I met Haruhiko Mikimoto a long time ago in a convention here in Barcelona. Unfortunately I could only exchange a couple of phrases with him, but he seemed a nice humble guy. Got my copy of Haruhiko Mikimoto Illustrations artbook signed by him, a treasure for my collection

Damn man, I'm jealous. I did get to meet Yoshitaka Amano, Eiichiro Oda, and Akira Toriyama... but all those were many years ago.
