I'm pretty sure that's a modified buckeye butterfly, not a moth.

The colors are awesome, however that is in fact a Buckeye, a butterfly (Precis coenia - Nymphalidae). I love the way you've made the fine hairs on it's wings, truly delicate work. Congratulations!

A wonderful representation. I esp. love the variation of green in the leafy background & how several of the leaves are shaped like hearts as an indication of your love for nature & this moth.

Wow! You're truly the Queen of Prismacolored pencils! :::bows::: All that rich detail, I'm sure your hand must be exhausted from coloring this in to make the moth's furry details look as sharp as it does! Excellent color scheme!

Holy Crap!!!! This is amazing! The colors are perfect, textures are gorgeous, and color interpretation in the leaves is just as good! Personally, i like saturnidiidae moths more, but i think all moths are just beautiful! This Buckeye (Junonia coenia) is fantastic! You are extremely talented with prismacolors! If you're at all interested in moth paintings may i suggest the art of John Cody [link] ?? he is amazing at painting saturniids!

Thanks for the comment, I'm glad you like it. I wanted to draw a moth because their markings are so cool and the colors are so rich for being browns. Thanks a lot for the link!

I really like the colors of of moth. The moth being on leaves makes it really pop out then if it was on the side of the tree. Great work.

I would have to say in person since I sorted your pencils so you could find the greens to draw the leave.

I like the different textures in this picture! Your coloring has really come a long way. Thats a huge moth, btw! Did you photo reference this? Anyway, great work!

GreenChikin In reply to ginsujustice [2005-03-11 16:53:38 +0000 UTC]

I did use a reference photo, but now I've lost it, which really bums me out because I dont remember what species this is. The photo had him on a different leaf that was even smaller and it was not cool so I made up the background. I had the hardest time making him look all furry, and then a couple of the leaves looked furry so I had to smooth those out.

Thankyouthankyou!!!

Cool! Thanks for sharing. I may have to try a picture like this to test out how rusty I've gotten with textures.

Yer welcome.
