I know what the hell porn is. A porn movie has cast members, camera people, directors and editors and pretty much the same production quality as a Hollywood movie like, say, Pulp Fiction for example. The artists behind those movies are expressing their right to make a movie about people having sex. Same with nude photographers, they're expressing their right to shoot models however they please. How the hell are these not art?

Emotions are ALWAYS something to appreciate. If war was happening in front of me, you're damn right I'm gonna be feeling a lot of shit in my head. But war, rape, etc are events, not expressions of creativity. This talk is supposed to be about whether or not porn is art, not whether or not war and rape have emotional impacts.

Fair enough on my points about war and other things not related to sex. The goal was to see if you deem everything as art (which apparently you do). If you were to witness war in front of you, would you be appreciating it for it's beauty or emotional power (as defined by google). Key word: Appreciate . I don't understand what expressions of creativity have to do with this though? All though, I can debate that war and rape can be expressions of creativity. I thought art was defined by something that can elicit emotions (as stated by you). If someone is watching another person get raped, does the viewer/witness feel nothing?

Unless said person is a sociopath, of course they would feel something. Expressions of creativity have to do with this because that's what art is, it's both that and about getting a reaction from it's viewer. This whole talk started as debating if porn is art or not. A porno movie or picture express whatever creativity the filmmakers/photographers have. They also elicit emotions from the viewers. For me, it can either be arousal or disgust or indifference. Ohhhh so now creativity has been brought into the equation. This is something which you did not state before. I've seen some really uncreative artistic nudity before. I can recall a picture of a girl from the back and all you can see was a vagina and butthole. I guess this counts as art? I've also seen just pictures of nothing but boobs. No face, no nothing. A blurred background and some tits. This is not art.Β

Because I come to deviantart hoping to find some good pieces of >artwork< whether it be something of nature or a cool drawing. What I don't want to see is a picture of a naked lady. It is an insult to the word art. If I want to see porn i'll go look at porn. I don't come to deviantart for porn. I know I know I can put on the filter, but it's the principal that counts. So often do I see some nudity and then in the description it contains no explanation of the picture, just information on how you can purchase it. $_$. Deviantart provides a way for people to safely and trustfully distribute pornographic images.Β

I don't know what else to say. Deviantart is a just a website that hosts art. I've already made it abundantly clear that I wholeheartedly support porn as a legitimate form of art. As for the bowel movement statement, yes, if someone took the time to set the shit up on a pedestal, set up the backdrop, lights and take the picture, yes it would be art. Just because it's literally or figuratively a pile of shit does not mean it's not art. Only that it's unpleasant art.Β

Also, this just in, on a completely unrelated note, the Holocaust was the greatest display of art in all of this planet's history. Hitler expressed his hate by gathering up millions of people he didn't like. He then used his imagination, and killed them by putting them in a gas chamber. It was creative because it was something never done before in history and therefor very original.Β
