Lovely capture I want to start doing long exposure shots to get this "milky sea" effect. I'd like to ask some advice - at sunset when light levels are lower - do you need an ND filter or can you do it without?

Cheers! As far as I can remember I will have used a 3 stop ND filter on this shot, which really does help slow things down. I've since lost that filter and rarely get exposures longer than a second or so in these kind of lighting conditions without it, unless it's very late on. So I would say you do need something to take some stops out. If you don't mind the diffraction too much stopping the aperture right down in conjunction with a polarizer will slow things down quite a lot though!Β

Coolio. I have literally never used one and haven't really tried the long exposure thing except for stars SO I just wanted to check I shall have to get around to investing in some ND filters!

They can be a bit expensive but totally worth it. Hope you have fun tryingΒ them out if you do get some, I really need to replace mine too!
