I like this darker kind of artwork. This creature looks like a cosmic horror trying to impersonate a clown.

A genetically engineered life form with the purpose to guard at the bio weapon research facility on Phobos, one of the Mars' moons. It had been built in the year of 2327 in order to conduct experiments that were either legally inhibited on Earth or too dangerous to be executed in a less isolated environment.
The scientists there had constructed these cyborgs as one of their first projects. It's almost ten feet tall, can endure extreme temperatures and has no pain receptors. It's objective: fend off any intrusion, keep the station safe.
The first series of guards had looked different. They had a fully functioning brain. A milestone of science, everyone had agreed when the scientists looked at their master piece. The first entirely artificial life form, completely designed to serve and fully under control. One purpose, classy design and just brilliantly functioning. But the success did not last long. Life forms like to adapt and develop themselves and soon the guards did so too. They started to become smarter. Only a little bit at first. The staff found it quite cute at first seeing the guards trying to imitate them using forks, or pretending to brush their teeth when they stood in front of a mirror. But soon they developed their own self awareness. They started to question their their existence. "Why are we?", they had asked. First only like a verbal hick up. But soon their muttering questions became calls and the calls turned into screams. Some ran wild destroying vast areas of the station, some committed suicide. Because they were strong, immune to vacuum, incapable to feel any physical pain they were almost unstoppable. Big parts of the research facility were destroyed. They started to smash their heads into walls and to rip apart the the station. Areas were locked down for ever due to hazards going out from other experiments, other's were emptied by opening the air hatches spilling all content into space. Nobody knows what they had been working on in these areas. Records had been deleted and the companies who had funded the projects had denied any involvement, distancing themselves from the incident. The lost sectors had been put under quarantine. No survivors or at least nobody had ever dared to look.
But this is all long ago now. Parts of the station had been rebuilt, new projects started, experiments conducted and finished, and after a few decades the station became less and less populated. The new guards had most parts of their brain replaced by a simpler computer only leaving the brain stem as an interface to interact with the machine part. Much easier to control now. Finally after years of research without any further incidents the last paycheck got paid, the guards were shut down and the last employee left the station. Many other terrors that had been developed here and had left their mark in the wars history of humanity. And the few people left that knew about the station's existence, living on the now scarred surface of Earth had no interest to ever return to it. They decided to abandon the memory of the station as the station itself had been abandoned already, letting it plunge into the abyss of oblivion and never mentioning it again.
But it's still there. And there is one guard that still wanders through the empty and dark corridors, looking into every corner for something .. different. Over and over and over and it does not mind. Until something different happens. Like an echo. A wave, rippling through time, waiting to touch something else so it can unfold a new network of options. What had caused it to spring back to life?
There you go, that's the story
