I wanted to say that I rather highly amused by the fact that your work is labelled "piece of art", just in case it wasn't clear.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

gregoriousone In reply to LionsDreaming [2005-05-03 00:08:05 +0000 UTC]

i put that in there for some of the slower members of our audience.

LionsDreaming In reply to gregoriousone [2005-05-03 02:18:59 +0000 UTC]

Wow, maybe that could be a feature on every page of devart. Giant red letters at the top, reading "Artwork below." Wouldn't that be fantastically annoying?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

gregoriousone In reply to LionsDreaming [2005-05-03 04:26:55 +0000 UTC]

i dont know about every page.. can we leave the bad anime style drawings out?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

LionsDreaming In reply to gregoriousone [2005-05-03 05:31:51 +0000 UTC]

You know, though... The problem with that is you would have to garuantee that the "art" was indeed very bad anime. And that would probably mean doing something silly like . . . making a panel of 20 or 30 people at least to judge it. Much too much red tape, I feel...

you are right.. much too much red tape.

Great work! I like how everything is layered.
Where do you find the images to make these?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

gregoriousone In reply to stringsonly [2005-04-20 17:22:38 +0000 UTC]

thank you.. there are almost 30 layers in this image.
i search for old postcards, magazines, photographs at flea markets and local antique stores.
some of it came from a big box of old photos and papers that belonged to my grandfather.

Did you add the red dots with a stamps of some kind or were there there previously? Very nice piece

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

gregoriousone In reply to penelopemoon [2005-04-20 17:21:03 +0000 UTC]

no stamps. and no they were there before.

this image in it's native .psp state has 29 layers. and those red dots compromise one layer. they are vector shapes that i drew and then grunged up a bit.

very special indeed,
i love it.

i read your comments to ~kolimpah, and would just like to mention i see a story in there,
or maybe more than one.

anyway, :hert: .

gregoriousone In reply to Layla-c [2005-04-20 17:18:55 +0000 UTC]

thank you.

sometimes ther is an intentional story.. other times the story sort sort of just happens. i like to let people see what they see and make up their own story based on what they see.

kolimpah In reply to gregoriousone [2005-04-20 07:26:59 +0000 UTC]

what are you trying to say with this piece? what was your motivation for making it, why did you choose the images and words that you did?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

gregoriousone In reply to kolimpah [2005-04-20 07:47:53 +0000 UTC]

what am i trying to say with this piece?
good question.

what was your motivation for making it?
my motivation was creative play.

why did i choose the images and words?
to answer that you have to understand how i work. very rarely do i sit down with a preconceived notion or idea. sometimes i have one or two images that i might want to play around with and work into an illustration. things usually evolve from there. from there it's all about design and balance and finding images that seem to have some sort of connection. It's more about building a structure.
so that is why i say 'good question' to your what am i trying to say with this piece question. if i am lucky something coherent comes out of it. some sort of story is told.

i hope that helps...
