Description This was done for /r/MLPdrawingschool's 20th biweekly challenge. The challenge was to draw something with a lot of space.

I also wanted to try and draw another cute Fluttershy. This is unfortunately one of the worst things I have drawn in awhile I think.

This was featured on EQD [link] I'm surprised.

Thanks glad you like it. Didn't intend any FlutterDash but I guess it ended up that way.

It probably didn't help that I was reading/looking through the drawfriend where this was featured and they had some FlutterDash. Once I see a ship I like, I see subtext everywhere.
(Yes, I'm a silly pony.)

Yeah they did have some FlutterDash in that one. I don't mind that ship at all and I can see it now.

Very adorable! I love the mane on Fluttershy! <3

Thanks oddly I thought I completely messed up her mane.

Nah you did fine! It's very pretty. ^.^

Aww thanks.

Nah it can't be bad! Maybe her head mane angles a bit weirdly with the light play.

Grennadder In reply to R1pperAnthon [2012-08-21 17:45:46 +0000 UTC]

Yeah the angle in the mane was really weird from this perspective.

I feel the two light patterns you use conflict a bit and make it look a bit weird.

Yeah that might be it.

Well at least your stuff is original and nice! I'd say keep it up!

Hey glad you think so. I will definitely keep going. I already came up with a random Pinkie Pie drawing idea I wasn't to get started.

Cool, should be once again a fine work. It's also quite nice that you have a personal style, your own touch so to say.

Grennadder In reply to R1pperAnthon [2012-08-23 19:45:11 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. Its weird the only thing I really do different from show style is a slightly bigger head and no outlines, and somehow thats now my style.

R1pperAnthon In reply to Grennadder [2012-08-24 22:09:36 +0000 UTC]

Well it works fine. With colour you are able to add so much more to an image too.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Grennadder In reply to R1pperAnthon [2012-08-24 22:41:20 +0000 UTC]

Yeah thats my current goal, learning to use color.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

R1pperAnthon In reply to Grennadder [2012-08-25 01:13:20 +0000 UTC]

Do you draw with soft contours or still use the black lines for most of the stuff?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Grennadder In reply to R1pperAnthon [2012-08-25 02:01:49 +0000 UTC]

Black lines mostly then I put the color under it. I end up using a ton of layers.

R1pperAnthon In reply to Grennadder [2012-08-25 11:45:52 +0000 UTC]

luckily by playing around with that you can literally build up a drawing. For example, I haven't figured out yet how to properly do light spots with pencil.

Grennadder In reply to R1pperAnthon [2012-08-25 16:59:16 +0000 UTC]

Yeah it makes experimenting with stuff like anatomy, and the setting pretty easy too. As for light spots with pencil I have no idea either haha.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

R1pperAnthon In reply to Grennadder [2012-08-26 16:47:01 +0000 UTC]

Isn't also a superuseful thing the fact that you can instantly remove a line until you are satisfied with it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Grennadder In reply to R1pperAnthon [2012-08-26 18:31:37 +0000 UTC]

Yeah that is useful, but what I find myself doing is adding a ton of lines then erasing bits of each until I get the line I want.

R1pperAnthon In reply to Grennadder [2012-08-26 19:15:58 +0000 UTC]

I saw something with special sketch lines which were really light and near transparent, over which then the other drawing was done.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Grennadder In reply to R1pperAnthon [2012-08-26 19:43:17 +0000 UTC]

Thats actually similar to what I do, but I know I don't do it the exact same way.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

R1pperAnthon In reply to Grennadder [2012-08-26 21:40:59 +0000 UTC]

DO you use the regular lines then and then make a new layer on top of the "sketch"?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Grennadder In reply to R1pperAnthon [2012-08-26 22:29:47 +0000 UTC]

Close I have a full sketch as the top layer and then make all the layers under it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

R1pperAnthon In reply to Grennadder [2012-08-27 10:40:56 +0000 UTC]

You build downwards? How does that conveniently work? I would assume you draw on top of the former lines, how are you sure your lines are as you want when you can't see them?(or do you make em transparent)?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Grennadder In reply to R1pperAnthon [2012-08-27 17:05:31 +0000 UTC]

I'm not entirely sure how I do things. I basically just have the sketch on top, and its pretty easy to see if a line is correct or not. I can always alter the transparency of any layer or is it opacity I can't remember. I just work with a lot of layers.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

R1pperAnthon In reply to Grennadder [2012-08-28 10:39:51 +0000 UTC]

If its the most convenient then I have no comment up it now do I

Do you put a lot of layers to build up on top of each other or are they separate parts?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Grennadder In reply to R1pperAnthon [2012-08-28 16:52:39 +0000 UTC]

Well it really depends on whats in the drawing, but I normally do both.

Works, also sorry for the hailstorm, It's always interesting to hear how people do it.

Its not a problem. I don't mind talking about that.

R1pperAnthon In reply to Grennadder [2012-08-29 07:43:39 +0000 UTC]

Phew luckily. When do you draw anyway, just inbetween stuff or do you really sit down to it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Grennadder In reply to R1pperAnthon [2012-08-29 07:59:10 +0000 UTC]

I normally draw at the end of the day. Its the only time I really am able to draw, thats actually what I'm doing now just trying to get a good picture in my head for the 21st biweekly.

R1pperAnthon In reply to Grennadder [2012-08-29 17:50:10 +0000 UTC]

Gheh no worries it was mainly to get your thinking back in the running I guess

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Grennadder In reply to R1pperAnthon [2012-08-29 17:53:48 +0000 UTC]

Yeah it definitely did that. Now I have to actually finish a drawing. I have about 5 rough sketches started but I'm not really attached to any of them.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

R1pperAnthon In reply to Grennadder [2012-08-29 18:14:28 +0000 UTC]

Heh glad it did, so the sketches are more random doodles which just flew out I guess.

How is it for you that you get attached to one, like you feel this is loaded with "something"?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Grennadder In reply to R1pperAnthon [2012-08-29 20:07:22 +0000 UTC]

Yeah I have done a few random doodles, mostly practicing with unique poses.

When I get attached to a drawing, I see more in it if that makes sense. Its not just something that was fun to do, its something I felt had to be done and I really wanted to do it. Its weird, like right now I have an idea for a Pinkamina drawing that I can't wait to sit down and do.

Yeah… I'm currently trying to redo it and I'm stuck on the eyes which were amazing before the crash just have to recreate those somehow.
