Wow. This looks so awesome. I like the minor color edit, makes it look like time halted and only the Hyena is moving~
But what's that that it killed? Looks too small and unstriped to be a zebra.

Could possibly be a Thomson's gazelle or Wildebeest or an antelope

Holy 7 year late response.
I had to come back to the image just because I had no idea what my comment was even referring to anymore with how long ago I asked this question.
Thanks for answering tho!

talk about being in the elements enough. that is a stunning and wild capture. almost intimidating being behind the camera i would imagine. never seen a wild animal captured in a frame like this before. great work!

First, your focus is right on. Second, the detail around the hyena's mouth is just unreal. Somber, yet part of every day life. Wonderfully captured. Not that I enjoy death, but I enjoy seeing what happens in real life on a daily basis. Congrats.

What is ominous about this photo is the zebras, out of focus, lingering near this grizzly scene, yet they show no sign of distress. There's a sense of helpless acceptance of what lies at the end.
Technically, beautiful photo! The muted saturation works well and makes the red really pop.
Congrats on the Daily Deviation!

I don't think it's quite like that--they know the hyena will be full, so they're not afraid anymore. But, I could be totally wrong. XD
