I think I went with the Ash because I was doing a strat style guitar and wanted that more mid-range/treble sound and went with that. Mahogany would have given a warmer low end sound more like a Les Paul.

Thank you very much! there's very few set parameters, you just have to know where the bridge is going, where the neck ends and the position of the pickups. Other than that its almost fare game with the shape.

Yeah two guys in my class actually mad some really outrageous shaped guitars, all pointy and dangerous looking. They were really cool though. I may have some pictures of them, I'll post them in scraps if I do.

well school was dirty, very cold in the winter and too hot in the summer and was worth every penny. It was a great experience and I learned allot. I think they have changed the curriculum around a bit since I went but they teach you every thing they possibly can in 5 months. here's the school website if you want to check out more. [link]
