Amazing! It looks great. Why did you choose swamp ash? why not mahogany?

GreyFactor In reply to Chupico [2009-10-25 23:21:06 +0000 UTC]

I think I went with the Ash because I was doing a strat style guitar and wanted that more mid-range/treble sound and went with that. Mahogany would have given a warmer low end sound more like a Les Paul.

this is a really beautiful piece of work. what sort of perameters are you given when u build it liek body shape n all

GreyFactor In reply to vampire-genocide [2008-04-16 18:30:19 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much! there's very few set parameters, you just have to know where the bridge is going, where the neck ends and the position of the pickups. Other than that its almost fare game with the shape.

Yeah two guys in my class actually mad some really outrageous shaped guitars, all pointy and dangerous looking. They were really cool though. I may have some pictures of them, I'll post them in scraps if I do.

well school was dirty, very cold in the winter and too hot in the summer and was worth every penny. It was a great experience and I learned allot. I think they have changed the curriculum around a bit since I went but they teach you every thing they possibly can in 5 months. here's the school website if you want to check out more. [link]

anyway, thats cool.

yeah its pretty pricey, but its 5 days a week and around 9 hours a day, so its allot of work and since its the only accredited Luthiery school you can get federal aid... but yeah, its expensive.

How do you do the inlay I can't find a good way to do it. Do you use a router?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GreyFactor In reply to MLZ [2007-11-26 17:33:42 +0000 UTC]

to cut the channel to put th inlay in I use a Dremel with a special base that I got through stewmac.com. and cutting the inlay pieces I just use a jewelers saw. check out stewmac.com they can hook you up with what you need.

Well I have to say that I don't like the look of fingerboard inlay, but it doesn't matter.
When I look on this guitar I can't breath. Simply MASTERPIECE!
That colour, binding, silver pickups

GreyFactor In reply to Adamoos [2007-10-29 17:46:05 +0000 UTC]

yeah the inlay was a requirement and I was very rushed to get it done and It didnt turn out as good as I would have liked, but it works for me... I'm glad you like it though, I worked really hard to make it the best I could giving the environment of the class I did it in.
