Hi guys,
not the funniest shot I believe, but the zebra died of drought, Kenya had a very bad year in 2009. So finding this scenes was all to easy.
Not sure if the vultures go for the eyes first, could be the flies too. A lot of humid and soft tissue there, ideal for maggots, so indeed eys, mouth and nostrils are used as entry points for the flies maybe also th vultures. I think I got this one from Amboseli National Park in Kenya.
Seems to be a younger zebra (you can tell by the fur), and they do lay down and have a nap, but not this one.

I think we have a built in cut-off for death..Raptors with a small bird,or a fish...no problem,but if its a "cute" Mammal,well thats different,when in fact ,its all just food..

eaten by a lion is quite okay, sort within the mammals, our brothers and sisters, sort of internal stuff.. BUT shark oh no, they are supposed to be primitive and so on -- I think Douglas Adams in *Last Chance to See* book said so... There is something to it. And after death well who cares ... besides burial rituals are the one of the first rituals documented in human evolution. So yes we are sort of hard wired on that thing

That photo is amazing, wow! I can't remember I've seen something like this before (and I'm a wildlife photo nerd). I especially love this perspective, for it makes it possible to see both vulture faces and the half-rotten zebra's face. Usually I see a lot of photos with animal skeletons that barely have much flesh nor skin left at all when there's vultures around them, so this is special. c:

hi thanks a lot for the detailed critique. Some of these luck shots when I was at the right place at the right time. During the drought 2009 finding cadavers wasnt tooo difficult, seems I caaptured it at nice evening light...
