Yeah so.
Max reaaallyyyyy struggled with the first part of the tournament. The riddle really tested him.
He thinks highly of himself, so this was definitely a serving of humble pie, not to mention a test of his patience. Being short-tempered, it took a lot for him to not just blow up the room.
Not to mentioned he was polyjuiced into Mikayla Wilson , who, with all due respect, is a lot shorter than Max. This also hit Max's confidence and showed him a new (literal) perspective of the world, haha.

So yes, here is Max in the blackhole of despair as he questions everything, borderline existential crisis style.
