Description
Here is the first of three busts I've been working on for the amazing nickyflamingo for placing first in my Shameless Shipping Contest. In this piece we see the lovely NGC 6273, The Queen of Roses and Thorns. I'm starting to adapt my busts to appear more like my other illustration work, in which I avoid using absolute colors and shades (no black, white, or primaries). This gives the pieces (hopefully successfully, but we'll see) a more muted, less graphic look.NGC 6273 (c) nickyflamingo

I like the muted tones here since, like you say, they do tie in with your color sensibilities elsewhere. I still think the busts have a strong graphic feel, but I think that's down to their style (flat colors, front-on), not just the colors used.
Grant you, I like graphic, so, you know, this is not a bad thing.
