Squee! It reminds me of my Mozart ('cept Mozzy has black eyes)
Mozart and Shakespeare are my first owned pets, and the first rats I've kept, and they're so awesome! I love rats, and I love this <3

Actually untrue. BLUE capped rats usually only have black eyes, but lilac, tan and cream, or any of those dilutes (or double dilutes) can have ruby or red, depending on the mutation. I wanted my blue to have red eyes for effect, so I assumed it was a chimera mutation so I could get away with it. In such a case it is actually possible.

They CAN be dirty, if they live in dirty conditions. Kept as pets they're as clean as you keep their cage.
As far as eating babies, I don't doubt it. They are surprisingly intelligent for their size, and one of the most successful species as far as sheer survival instincts goes. I'm sure a wild rat would gladly take any potential food it finds, even if it's still alive. As pets they learn that humans are friends, and will treat you like a fellow rattie, even grooming you, following you around and playing tag with your hands! Of course every rat has its own unique personality, and not every one will grow to love humans, but if you interact with them every day, even the more suspicious ones will come to see you as a positive presence. The really good ones show interest in humans early on.
Just like wild dogs, wild rats can be dangerous, but domestic ones can be sweet, affectionate and loyal. I hope you get a chance to have one (or better yet, two) some day
More than you wanted to know? ~
