I bought Boris and Bella several years ago with the last ten dollars in my wallet. Your art inspired me immensely. I poured over the illustrations, they followed me, and I had the name "Gris Grimly" in the back of my mind for days and days. I let an admiring friend borrow my copy and, understandably, never got it back. It crushed me. I don't now how I just stumbled upon you again here, but am so glad to have done so. I am newly ignited by your work. It has such a distinct and tangling voice. Your illustrations provide a whole world for me. Thank you so much for doing what you do.

Thanks. One of my favorites and I'm sad to hear the hardcover has gone out of print. Paperbacks are still available.

I love this book so much! I think my little sister got it from a book order, and we bonded over it instantly.

I remember buying this book for the group of 1st graders that I used to help learn how to read. They loved the pictures so much that they would sit there and look at it for a long time after I had finished reading it to them. The artwork was fabulous!

I loved this book!! When I went to my local bookshop during Halloween, I saw the illustrations and was intrigued to open it up and see. Despite it being a children's book, I enjoyed reading it and looking at the drawings!!
They were quirky and scratchy, with a Burtonesque element to it. The figures were simple yet eye-catching to view. How did you develop your style?

I love the Cabinet of Dr. Caligari. German expressionism is a big influence on my work. The image of the kids going over the hill for trick or treating was inspired by The Seventh Seal. Thanks.
