Description "...suddenly, in that cottage high up in the great tree-castle, the Fox cub saw, far, far away in the forest, a gleam of the clearest green.

For a moment, the fear that haunted that strange dreamland seemed to fade.

And then it was gone."

Saw a BIG red fox in the back parking lot where i work. Industrial building up against suburbia.

It is a dreamland- "The Land of the Green Quartz"- and except for Todd and a Vixen there ("Miss Vixen"), the color red is never used.

i know it maybe silly to ask but why is the colour red never used?

To give it an unreal sort of look. Since Todd is a red Fox cub, the lack of such a color around him would look strange.

Oh yeah then again its not hard to imagine red's not really seen much in the wild except for flowers and berries and the odd animal

True- but it would be there in the sky, at sunset, for example- but in the Land of the Green Quartz, Todd "...never really saw a sun, although shadows were cast."

And "day and night would just be there, as in so many dreams."

Even in the Castle, sometimes a staircase would be there- or maybe not. A room might be there, or maybe it would be a hall. If you didn't try to find it again, but simply accepted it as having been there, then it would be again.

It was a very strange adventure!

That cub does end up in the most peculiar adventures- usually in spite of his best efforts.

"the dark thing" oooh! but I don't... know what that is

GriswaldTerrastone In reply to Cajek [2010-08-21 18:08:48 +0000 UTC]

It's never made clear- no real description is ever given, and it is never actually seen, not clearly. It is the very stuff of a sinister nightmare. But it was there, waiting for those it kept trapped in the castle.
