Description Mushroom rain is a saying in Russian languages that pretty much is a sunshower, but ancient Slavs noticed that somehow mushrooms in the forest appear to be more visible among the weeds. This is a comission, and the person who comissioned me this was having some problems in their family. I was actually very rude towards them, because they replied very slowly and I wanted to get rid of this pack of comissions as soon as possible. I apologized to them, of course.
At first the work was supposed to be dark and instead of rain I had maple leaves falling from above, but then I sit behind the desk, looking at the first colours that I tried to do and I thought that it was extremely boring and it didn't fit the character, she looked like a funny energetic little girl. I experimented with trees, but then this idea striked me. I added more colour to the background that was intended to be really gray and dull and replaced trees with big mushrooms and so it on, and the atmosphere of this place just appeared out of nowhere.
All those creatures that sit on this snaptrap girl named Bonnabelle somehow remind me of my Motherland, which makes this work a really personal one. I actually put soul into it and I love it.
There is a frog on her head - I remember, when I was at my step-grandmother's dacha I was catching frogs with her and my stepdad, both of whom were really not good people and didn't like me, but then I was beyond happy to hold this scared slimy tiny creature in my hands.
A mouse on her left shoulder - I haven't really seen a lot of mice in my life, but I know that a lot of mice species live in steppes, and steppes are really common in Russia, and I love them, they make you feel free.
Beside the mouse there is a butterfly... or a moth. When I was six, I went out to the beach of the river that I was living beside with my grandmother. It wasn't a beach in ussual understandement of them - it was more like a forest that ended abruptly as an actual artifically build beach with sand started. And just before the thin tree line there was a huge steppe. Me and my grandmother were heading towards the beach to do something that I don't remember, and on our way there I caught a butterfly, the very first one in my life. It was blue and white and I actually hurt the tip of it's wing and squished it a little bit too hard. But the butterfly was okay and I let it rest in the grass.
And two birds that she holds on her hand - a rock dove, now known as a city pigeon and a bullfinch. Rock doves make great pets when handled correctly and they are loyal to the place they were born at, just as most Russians are. I actually take time out of my daily routine sometime and sit there, imagining what my future life would be. I can see myself everywhere, but I can't see myself not missing steppes of my fatherland, not being torn apart between bright future and my career that I want to have and the place where I was born at - wild Soviet city that slowly faded away to become a quiet place filled with elders and trees. Just as a rock dove, I will always remember my home and I will return there.
Bullfinches I have not seen to take a huge part of in an other country's culture, even if that country has that bird species present at their territory. England, France, Finland I'm sure has them as well as Norway, Kazakhstan, I think there are present on North of China too. But where is the impact that these birds could do on this culture? I might not be correct, but I haven't seen a person from a country that I have listed that thought that bullfinch are a part of they culture - I do. Most of the Russians do.
They are called snowbirds in our language, "snegir." I've seen them only one time in my life - I was coming home from school and I had a really bad day, I felt horrible and didn't want to come home at all. And then I see a speck of crimson red in the bushes near the building that I was walking beside. I approach them and it appears that a little bullfinch is sitting there on a branch. It looked at me, then looked around warily and then flew off. For some reason I felt so happy at that moment, I just felt... like if my country herself was speaking to me. Since then bullfinches are important to me.

What can I say about this artwork? It's about human nature. It's about nature of a Earthen creature in general. You may feel lonely, you may be crushed with the weight of lemons life gives you, you might just move to an other country and feel stressed of not being able to speak your language and live among people that differ from you. But no matter what, no matter how far away you are from home, no matter how years go by, you will return to your little mushroom forest and watch your mushroom rain with your frog, mouse, moth, pigeon and bullfinch friends.Β

That's all I've got to say! I hope you enjoy.

Β Dream, when you're feelin' blue
Dream, that's the thing to do

Just watch the smoke rings rise in the air
You'll find your share of memories there

So, dream when the day is through
Dream, and they might come true

I'm not as active on DeviantArt as you might think, you can already see that I am replying almost exactly one month later. People like consistency and with my wild schedule I can't give none.

As long as I get paid for my work, I don't think about the numbers of my followers. At the end of the day, comissions bring me more happiness than people's attention - I can't buy myself a loaf of bread on the amount of people that watch me in the social media. This DeviantArt is mainly an archive
