You definetly got it right! Hasbro has screwed it up in so many ways!

Yeah the blind bags are horridly un-show-accurate

so, Pinkie Pie is perfect?

I only painted her cutie mark on the other flank. What changes could be made to her aren't really worth doing, at least in my opinion. All attempts to make the hair more show-accurate that I've seen other artists do seem really messy and don't look that good.

What did you do to Pinkie Pie?

nothing other than painting the cutie mark on the other flank. I don't think it really needs much improvement.

Removing the hair is easy enough, but what did you use to make the new piece, if you don't mind telling?

Ahhhh I was about to go at it with Model Magic, which I'm thinking would be a bit too flimsy.

I don't know anything about any other sculpting material except green stuff. Milliput has always worked wonderfully for me.

Great. I'll have to give it a try. Thanks for the info.

Say I was wondering, how do you remove the hair from these ponies to sculpt new hair on top of it? I have some blindbag ponies and was wanting to give it a try too, are there any tutorials on how to do it so I don't risk ruining the figure?

I never watched a tutorial, I just went at it with an exacto knife and sculpted it the way I wanted. Be really careful though, it's very easy to cut yourself, so never force the blade. I've had lots of practice, but just last week I sliced my finger clean open and started bleeding everywhere. Keep bandages nearby.... just in case...

I see some of the Fluttershy hair is missing? How did you take it off?

Gryphyn-Bloodheart In reply to KillYourFamily [2012-02-23 02:47:37 +0000 UTC]
Yeah you basically have to cut off the entire forelock to get her hair right.

I saw someone used an exacto knife for hair modifications because it slices easily through vinyl. Is that what you did? I want to get into customizing ponies so I'm trying to figure out the basics.

One more question, since you know what you're doing, is there anything special I need to paint it with? I remember someone else saying that acrylics work, but you needed primer and paint thinner?
As I said, I've never done one before. I'm PROBABLY going to Micheals today, so I wanna make sure I have the right supplies. Thanks!

You can just thin your paint with water, and yes invest in a gloss or finish of some kind. I use a primer, but I prefer using Army Painter, and haven't found a primer I like at a general craft store.

Pinkie didn't need any change besides having the reverse flank painted, that's why she's only $5, and also why I didn't bother making any before/after pictures.

^^ Yeah. They recolored RD to make a Fluttershy. That is definitely one of the laziest things I've seen a toy making company do. >.<
