Description OMG! Can cosplays bite? Because Meryl's cape TOTALLY DID!

Never again will I deal with that cape. It was extremely hard because the cape is gigantic, and it's all one piece, so I couldn't sew the gun holders in pieces and then sew the cape together because it's all one piece. ANYWAYS!

So I started by figuring out that Meryl's cape pans out into a whole circle, and seeing that I couldn't get fabric the width and length that I needed (which was 80x80inches). So I ended up buying Full sized sheets. 2 in white, and 1 in navy blue. I doubled up the white because just using one layer of white on the blue, the blue would have been showing through.

Before sewing it all together, I needed to sew the brown gun holders onto the navy blue piece first. I cut 20 brown pieces of fabric 21x7inches. I then sewed them together (2 pieces at a time) and then flipped them inside out. For where the gun gets held into place, the brown I used there is ribbon. There was no need to cut that small of pieces so I just used ribbon. I still need to place small metal studs on the ends, but that's easy enough.

As you can see though, the "bib" part, or whatever you want to call the front of her outfit, is the last thing I have to sew. I seriously battled this cape today, so I'm relaxing my fingers and my brain. I know how I want to sew it, so once tomorrow rolls around, hopefully it will get done. Then after that, I simply have the 50 derringers to make. My main problem is finding a derringer, I just need one to make the other molds, and then I'll use that one when walking around to have out in the open. I may get a small photo shoot, like, in my backyard when her costume is done minus the derringers.

As for patterns, I can't help you there. I don't use them. 1, I'm too lazy to for patterns, and 2, I honestly like figuring out how to make my costumes without them. But her cape, as shown in the picture, is simply a circle.

If you have any questions, simply ask! I promise I don't bite!

i bought my costume pre-made but it was not done correctly, so I ended up taking more than half of it apart and redoing it...so it became my own costume pretty much. The holsters, I agree, were very hard to do on the cape. My cape was in 3 pieces that were sewn together, so doing the holsters was harder b/c ther was less room for sewing it on the cape. My cape wasn't long, but almost like yours. My problem was with the guns. I did the same thing as you did with the guns from party city and painted all of them but my cape is now literally choking me. Any suggestions?

Yes, I have a good one! My cape does the exact same thing to me. Granted this will only help a little, as I still feel pressure on my neck when I wear this thing. I bought shoulder pads. Like, REALLY puffy ones. (They almost look like mini-pillows). I put Velcro on the top of them, and Velcro on the inside of the cape (at the shoulders!) The shoulder pads help push the cape forward, and up (only slightly) and this in turn keeps you from choking to death. XD Kind of hard to explain, but even with this the shear weight of the cape is really hard to offset.

kya i am also working on meryl but my cape is not nearly as big, its huge tho too, but i did not use that idea because me and my wolfwood are making the holsters out of leather and hanging them off a leather harness ill wear under the cape, so i can move them about. more expensive but less sewing especialy since i dont have a sewing maching and sew everything by hand (and liquid stitch for safty) I do love it tho, how are you making the guns because we are using resin in molds

For the guns I bought them at Party City, they are water guns that I painted. They are very light, which is why I like them.

my friend(wolfwood) is fixing his crosspunnisher up with nerf guns and he thinks we can do the same for all of meryl's guns we are wanting enter a walk on and shoot them all over the stage we are building a group ^-^ im hoping we can find nerf guns small enuf for meryl but if that does not work then we are using a mold the water guns is a good idea tho i would just get tiard of painting them especialy since i hand stitch all my cosplays, and am about to start stitching up the cloak v.v to poor fo a sewing machine
