Description
One civil war changed everything.
The world we live in has always been a place anything but empty. Every day something new can happen that may change the course of history forever. Today, the world runs red. Red as a revolutionary’s red scarlet banner. Red as the heart of a socialist leader. Socialism and Communism dominate the modern world. But how would something like this come to be? How have the Commune of Briayon and the Jayassian Federation of Soviet Socialist Republic come to dominate the world in a new world order with nothing to oppose their iron fists? The answer lies in the events that unfolded during the Cold War from 1930 to 1990.
It began with the ending of World War One in 1918. The Republics of Briayon and Lindonce, and the Jayassian Empire lay in ruin after eight years of war on the European continent. For the last two years of the war, social unrest had grown to a peak. Calls to the end of the war, refusal to act on several orders by both of their governments. Food and supplies had hit record breaking lows. However they refused to surrender, hoping a last minute victory could save their faces. Their counterattacks failed and whatever remained of their national and economic stability completely fell apart.
When the Treaty of Kulster was finally signed, the republican governments in Briayon and Lindonce managed to barely survive, until a post-war economic crisis was the final straw that broke the camel's back. Lindonce fell into a civil war between the syndicalist Red Army and the non-syndicalist white army. In Briayon, the postwar provisional government fell apart as it failed to assert its control, and was overthrown by a syndicalist provisional council, proclaiming the Commune of Briayon. In Jayassia a similar situation broke out, where communist revolutionaries rose up against the aristocratic monarchy that had reigned over the country for centuries. When the dust finally settled by 1930, the Commune of Briayon, the Socialist Republic of Lindonce, and the Jayassian FSSR, came together to proclaim the Pendel Pact as a new military alliance to protect themselves against the Mrassian Imperial domination on the continent.
The first major proxy war began in Garecia, where long years of isolation, humiliation, and external judgment, led to the famed military general, Ace Hudson to lead a military coup against the federalist government, and declaring himself as the new president. In response, the Garecian Red Army rose up in the Midwestern provinces. In the South, rogue liberals and conservatives seized control of the Southern states, forming the Garecian Unitary Republic. In the West, the Garecian Silver Shirts rose up and declared the rebel state of the Garecian National State. The Pendel Internationale sent aid to the Red Army while the Professional Bloc under leadership of the Mrassian Empire, sent aid to the GUR, which became the eventual winners of the war.
After the civil war, the reunified Garecian Republic backed up underground Christian militias in syndicalist lauradan lands to the North in an event that became known as the Blum Affair. Then in 1944, the Rouchette Affair kicked off as several Lindoncian planes flew over the Mrasian border dropping syndicalist propaganda to help spread the revolution, which ultimately failed.
It would take a long time before an evident winning side in this ideological struggle would become more clear. A war in the Congo, a missile crisis in East Asia, several guerrilla wars in Southeast Asian states, decolonization, an oil crisis, a space race… nobody knew if a second world war would ever break out before the end of the century…. Until a civil war broke out in Destburg.
On February 11, 1990, the socialist party won the parliamentary elections, but the government was encouraged to suppress the results, leaving the nationalists in power. Refusing to accept this, the socialists rose up in a violent rebellion against the monarchy. Quickly they received military support from the Pendel Internationale, with MUCH outrage and protest from the Professional Bloc, who demanded that the Westerners remove their support from the war, a request which was swiftly ignored. With no more hope in diplomatic negotiations… On June 28, 1990, at roughly 10:56 at night, the Second World War began as the Professional Bloc declared war on the Pendel Internationale. However… The odds were not in the League’s favor.
The Mrassian Empire swept through Lindonce and fully occupied the country by 1991. The Chanbodans continued to resist in the mountains of Northern Iberia. In the East, the Professional Bloc launched a full scale offensive into the Jayassian Federation of Soviet Socialist Republics.
Seeing an opportunity, the Vicegusa Covenant, an alliance of fascist dictatorships along the Meditarranean, declared war on the Pendel Internationale and Professional Bloc. However they would not last long. With restless populations demanding democratic reforms, refused to fight, and instead rebelled against their fascist regimes.
In 1993 the invasion of Jayassia began to collapse. Then in 1994, forces from Briayon and Laurada liberated Lindonce from Mrassian occupation. Also by early March 1995, syndicalist and communist partisans which had resisted the control of the Professional Bloc, had secured the nations of Alesta, Stelegal, Gracada, and Brunak.
Unfortunately, August 27, 1995 saw the end of the war in Europe and Asia, with the surrender of Mrassia and Josaki. There was no going back now.
The Garecian Republic and the Emasilian Republic tried to desperately turn the war around, but failed. The Emasilian capital of Apanada fell by May 1996, and after that, the city of Colville, Garecia was surrounded. In the government buildings of Colville, government officials realized all hope was lost and surrendered on September 8, 1996 at 8:27 in the morning, announcing the republic’s surrender.
In the peace negotiations, extremely harsh war reparations were placed on the Garecian Republic, throwing the country into debt shortly after. Along with that, it was forced to demilitarize all of its borders with neighboring states. And was forced to remain politically neutral for 100 years.
