Description Over the years that I’ve been going to Wolf Park, I’ve been honored to become acquainted with the wolves there. Each and every one is special in their own particular way. However, we do have our favorites that we get drawn to for one reason or another or for no particular reason at all; we just do. For me, on my very first visit, I fell deeply in love with Tristan and his sister Maya. Sadly Maya passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. My love affair with Tristan continues to this day. But there are others to whom I’ve been drawn as well and dear Ruedi was one of them! How Ruedi could make me laugh! You just couldn’t help but love this wolf! His antics were so adorable. And he just couldn’t stay out of trouble either! Many times I’ve watched him and just shaken my head, all the while laughing at him. What joy he brought to my life! And of course, it goes without saying that gazing at him close up and seeing those gorgeous blue eyes, alight with mischief, wasn’t a joy beyond compare!

I mean this to be a tribute to a wolf that I loved dearly, who I will miss so very much, and who touched my heart to its very depths! He is gone from us too soon but he shall never be forgotten! I know that I am not alone in these feelings. Ruedi touched so many hearts!

This photo is in no way a great one of him; I’m not saying that it is. But it is all I could lay my hands on at the moment. And it’s taken this long for me to finally be able to write this; the emotions have been too overwhelming.

Goodbye, sweet Ruedi!

Yes, they were. We lost Ruedi last December at the young age of 8. His Dad, Tristan, has followed just recently at the age of 14, almost 15.

Thanks Martin! Ruedi's loss will be felt for a long time to come but I somehow felt better writing something about him, to try to tell folks how wonderful he was and what he meant to me. It took a while before I could do it. You understand. Ruedi will live on forever in our minds and hearts!

Hee...I suppose attention is unwanted when it gets in the way of things like sleep . That's great that you have cats though! I really miss my old moggie...it's incredible how attached you can get to these creatures.

Sadly yes. The details are in my journal. He was too young to go. Ruedi touched many lives though with joy and for that I'm deeply grateful. Including my own, of course. Dawn, it really hit me hard.....

Love the tribute.
I'm sad to say I'm joining you in mourning a wolf. One of the Grizzly & Wolf Discovery Center wolves, Joseph, passed away in December and I just got around to reading about it...He was the omega in one of the packs.
Hopefully the two will feast on much bison and fish (Joseph got to catch live fish) in their wolfy paradise.

Guard-of-the-Citadel In reply to DeeOtter [2013-01-22 23:08:42 +0000 UTC]

Oh no! Poor Joseph! Although I must admit to a big smile when I read about the fishing...how wonderful for him! I'm sure that Joseph had folks who loved and adored him just as much as Ruedi did.

Thanks for liking my humble tribute. It took a while before I could write it. You understand.

DeeOtter In reply to Guard-of-the-Citadel [2013-01-23 01:29:06 +0000 UTC]

It is pretty neat. I've never seen them fish myself but I've seen the wolves in the water looking for them. May try to see if I can catch them, catching fish next summer.

Yes. It took me a while to do a tribute to Marcus & Ceann (they were the wolves that came to the Oregon Zoo, from Wolf Park).

Sorry. I think the tears will be there, just under the surface for a while. I still can't believe it. I was on the photo of the day page today, looking at pictures of the wolves being goofy, Wolfgang courting Dharma and it just made me feel bad, like he's already forgotten.

No, he'll never be forgotten. You, me and a half dozen others I can name will always have him in our thoughts. And WP has to carry on as usual for the sake of everyone else. They accept what is, but mourn for what has passed.
