Description I am currently dressed as a Roman Legionary in a variant form of their standard armor. Their standard armor looks like what you see in the begining of the movie Gladiator, and is called Lorica Segmenta. I am wearing the earlier version of their armor. This was called the Lorica Hamata and was made out of tightly woven chain mail. My helmet is highly historically accurate for the time. My sword is called a Gladius and was a roman shortsword.
I made my helmet out of a backwards baseball batters helmet with cardboard sidings added on and covered with Duct tape. The armor was made out of a kind of sheet plastic that comes in rolls. We cut it to size (though that was a couple years ago and boy have I grown since then,so it's kinda small) and covered it in duct tape. My mom sowed the bottom part of a XXL red shirt I bought to be my tunic onto another shirt and that made the tunic you see before you. I borrowed the belt from my brother and my dad made me the waist guard out of this sturdy cloth and held it their with a rope that went under the belt (it held my sword up too). My sandals were found at wal-mart and look a lot like standard roman sandals should, except that roman sandals had an open toe.
