Description

Mark I Cheenan Escort Fighter/Long Range Scout Model QR 219
Class: Heavy Fighter
Crew: 2 (1 Pilot, 1 Co-pilot)
Armaments: 4 heavy Cannons, 2 Missile launchers, 1 rotating light repeating laser gun.

The QR 219 was initially designed and constructed as a cheap long range scout ship. It was designed with a large sensor unit, small crew cabin, and a bulky but effective communications unit. It had a crew of 3: Pilot, Sensor operator, and OPS. These ships were built in large numbers and deployed with some success to the Alliance borders. After the Mark II and III heavy scout ships were released the small but solidly built fighters were relocated to fringe system patrols. Many QR 219s were sold for Mark IV design funds and as such they made their way into contract defence forces and with mercenaries. The tough little frame and simplified systems proved easy to upgrade for experienced mechanics. Very quickly there were hundreds of variations running from small cargo units, to sport cruisers, to taxis. But the design that caught the attention of the alliance was as a heavy fighter.

As a heavy fighter the Escort is capable of taking punishment and utilizing its 4 heavy cannons to devastate enemy ships that might threaten the ships it is protecting. 4 Missiles in 2 tubes allow them to threaten lighter more nimble fighters, and the rear light repeating blaster turret keeps enemies off of its rear as well as target incoming enemy munitions. It retains a robust sensor platform on the nose of the ship, and uses this to scan for threats at long range and overcome enemy jamming. The large rear engine plus the two supporting wing thrusters give it good forward speed and decent manoeuvrability for a heavy fighter, and allow it to keep up with other craft.

1) Inside the pilot and co-pilot each have a seat, the pilot is on the lower level. A ladder hatch tube is behind them, with a collapsing airlock to permit docking with other craft or spacewalks for repairs. Behind this is the engine access, crew rest area (Toilet, food heater, sink, disposal), and a chair that can recline into a small bed for shift rests. The ship can operate for a month at most.

2) The civilian taxi version of this fighter. Used for in system private transport services. It has only 1 pilot seat, the copilot seat having been replaced with a supply unit. The rear has been extended into the engine bay to accommodate up to 14 passengers, this has resulted in a smaller and less powerful engine with smaller fuel reserves being installed instead. On the roof several cargo clamps have been added to hold standardized passenger bags. Flights can take several hours, but generally no longer than half a day.

All done on MS paint.
