Gong Li was amazing in the movie! I felt sorry for her character, of course having Β an affair with her stepson made me a bit uneasy because she raised him as one of her own. But then again her husband was a jerk.

well i guess it's a bit too long in some parts, but for me, even the most boring shit staring Gong Li is worth watching
it's not like it's THAT boring, but some scenes could've been deleted, in my opinion.
But I liked the movie in general, the actors are pretty good, the set designs are OH MY GOD and the music is simply touching your soul in certain moments (in fact, the three things for which it's worth seeing it - the decors, the music and of course Gong Li).

yeah, and you know what was the most sad thing in the whole movie for me? The fact that both the emperor & the empress were such good looking people and they couldn't stand each other - I would love to see them being more lovey-dovey to each other, but that would make a whole different story, of course...
