Description The brainchild of , who came up the great idea of a crossover between Looney Tunes and the classic 1957 courtroom drama 12 Angry Men and commissioned me for a pic of it…this is not that commission, however. (That's right here: [link] ) This is just something that I really wanted to do ever since he came to me with his idea, which prompted me to watch the movie and subsequently decide on who should play whom, which in turn inspired me to draw all the Looney Tunes as jurors sitting around the table in the jury room:

Marc Antony as the Jury Foreman
Porky Pig as Juror #2, The Bank Teller
Sylvester as Juror #3, The Businessman
Wile E. Coyote as Juror #4, The Stockbroker
Claude Cat as Juror #5, The Baseball Fan
Barnyard Dawg as Juror #6, The House Painter
Daffy Duck as Juror #7, The Salesman
Bugs Bunny as Juror #8, The Architect
Elmer Fudd as Juror #9, The Old Man
Foghorn Leghorn as Juror #10, The Garage Owner
Pepe le Pew as Juror #11, The Watchmaker
The Roadrunner as Juror #12, The Advertiser

Sylvester and Bugs were the only ones specified, the rest I came up with on my own. I did my best to match up the personalities of the jurors with the LT characters, and despite a few headscratchers (Elmer Fudd as the old man springs to mind) I’m satisfied with how things turned out.

Funny bit of trivia: I only found out after I assigned Porky to the bank teller that the latter was played by John Fiedler, who also voiced Piglet in Disney’s version of Winnie the Pooh…a pig playing a man who plays a pig, interesting coincidence.

And people think cartoons can't be classy. Wow. How you managed to so well capture the spirit of that movie in a Looney Tunes way, I don't know, but ya sure did it!

I love it. The idea that Bugs is playing the Henry Fonda part and Elmer (for a strange change) playing the Joseph Sweeny "Old Man" part (which will make them close allies, is excellent. I would have given the role of the angry vindictive Lee J. Cobb to "Yosemite Sam" (a fit character for Bugs to slowly defeat - here with Elmer's help!).

Glad you like it! Now that you mention it, I agree that Sam would have probably been better suited for Cobb's role, but *insomniazzz specifically requested that Sylvester fill that role when he requested this commission. The version of Sly that he uses in his fanfics has an angry personality that also fits with Juror 3's character, and he had that in mind when he got the idea for this.

It was my decision to make Elmer the old man, and I agree that is a strange change for him. Which makes me even happier that you think it works out well.

well done, this is great!

Indeed, Wile E. always does a better job at looking like a genius than actually being one.

Thanks!

having recently seen the movie again it's frightening how spot on you were in casting, particularly Juror #12, #4 and #6. and it's even more obvious how amazing you were with your depiction of their body language here.... to think this wasn't even the commission. just says how great you are, Mr. Montag.

Believe me, I made sure to put effort into doing my homework for this one, so to hear from you that I was spot-on with everything means a lot to me, Mr. Riki!

"You say stuff like that to him again, I'm gonna lay you out..."

Or was that towards Sly's character? I need to watch the movie again...Though if it really was Foghorn I swear I didn't think of it while drawing this.

"A guy that says things like that to an old man should .." gaw i don't remember, but i'm pretty sure it was the garage owner, because Sly's character wasn't really a jerk throughout the movie, but the garage owner certainly was and constantly put his foot in his mouth. you know i need to watch that movie again. i haven't seen it since i was ... wow. i definitely need to see it again.

that's one of 'those' movies i told you about... a million times and it only gets better.

of course these pictures make it all the more better, too!

GuiMontag In reply to 8OV [2012-04-03 00:41:05 +0000 UTC]

I just found out it was indeed #3: [link] I guess you can say he was a jerk throughout the movie, given how much he wanted to see the kid executed...only by the end did he become truly sympathetic.

I tell you, each repeated watching only get's better, so I can definitely agree with you on that.

8OV In reply to GuiMontag [2012-04-03 22:13:23 +0000 UTC]

by then, i think... to be honest, he didn't change at all, he just gave up... and realized at least that he looked like an idiot in front of everyone else. just like Foghorn! lol

i guess it goes without saying that i always pictured the kid as being played by Furrball. which makes Sly fit his position even more, considering his own kid was a jerk to him (Sylvester Jr. from BD Jake's depiction?)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GuiMontag In reply to 8OV [2012-04-04 17:39:54 +0000 UTC]

Given the way he broke down after he tore up the photo of him and his son, I'd say there was probably a bit more to it than him simply giving up, like he just realized the real reason why he wanted the kid executed. By the end of the film he was made out to be sympathetic under all the viciousness and villainy, unlike #10 who was just an unlikeable bigot through-and-through.

You know I actually never considered who the kid might be, but Furrball would definitely be the best fit even if Sly wasn't #3. Though I never considered Jr. to be much of a jerk to his dad, just someone who was ashamed of his father's ineffectualness and wasn't afraid to show it...actually that does sound a bit jerkish.

And considering Jake's take on Jr. wasn't even his son to begin with, I guess there was more room for making him an even bigger jerk.

"Rotten kids... You work your hear out..."

yeah he's much more sympathetic on the cerebral level than garage man. i always get a kick out of the fact that he says in the very beginning that he has no personal opinion about the situation. 17 hour shift with 2 breaks... hahahahaah and one of the speakers in the call, his last name was "Montag" had to tell ya!

i really wish Jake had finished that particular one :sigh:

GuiMontag In reply to 8OV [2012-04-05 03:00:19 +0000 UTC]

It certainly makes for a heart-wrenching moment when he finally does change his vote to "not guilty..."

Interesting coincidence! I know there are quite a few people surnamed Montag, but that still must have been one heck of a surprise.

It's too bad, and I don't think it's likely he ever will, considering that he seems to have created a new continuity with his latest Sylvester story...at least that one was just as much worth reading as well.

I wouldn't say perfectly, though only because there are a bunch of little flaws that only I would probably ever notice...an artist is his own worst critic after all. Thanks again!
