Description No, not the former Queen of England, but rather Elizabeth Adrienne Samantha Annette Winton, our favorite strong-willed and short-tempered monarch of the Star Kingdom of Manticore (and Empress of the Star Empire of Manticore), accompanied by her loyal treecat Ariel. I had no idea exactly what Manticoran royal garb is supposed to look like, so I instead drew her in the Grayson dress she starts wearing later in the series.

I don't know if anyone else has drawn Elizabeth before, so if this is the first artistic depiction of her I hope I was able to do her character justice.

Nice picture, very well drawn. My compliments.
I especially like your take on the trimming of dress and collar as I have similar ideas about my Grayson dress costume

Thanks!
I figured a simple plain dress like the one Honor wore wouldn't be fitting of the ruling monarch, hence the fancy gold trim to make it look more "royal."

As I have said, it looks wonderful.
And I like your Ariel. He looks wonderful.

Ah, Yes. Elizabeth Adrienne Samantha Annette Winton, Grand Commander of the Order of King Roger, Grand Commander of the Order of Queen Elizabeth I, Grand Commander of the Order of the Golden Lion, Baroness of Crystal Pine, Baroness of White Sand, Countess of Tannerman, Countess of High Garnet, Grand Duchess of Basilisk, Princess Protector of the Realm, by God's grace and the will of Parliament, Queen Elizabeth III of the Star Kingdom of Manticore, and Empress Elizabeth I of the Star Empire of Manticore.

One doesn't have to be a geek to copy-'n-paste a block of text from a wiki, but actually knowing about the existence of an extremely long title on the other hand...

Ah, the massively inaccurate wiki. Better off not reading it.

Yes you can. Because only the uninitiated need such things. We die-hards go straight to the source materiel. In this case, the final chapter of Mission of Honor in which Admiral Harrington neglects to inform the BBOD for HMS Imperator that Beth is coming aboard with her. Hilarity ensues.

Ah, but one mustn't neglect the most important part of being a die-hard geek, which is rushing to update the wiki, wikipedia page, and/or TVTropes page the instant any new information on a series comes out, no matter how small or insignificant, to ensure that the rest of the internet won't miss it. I still have a long way to go in that regard...

What, no hand-made RMMC skinsuit replica? Someone's gotta do something to compete with all those Stormtrooper cosplayers out there!

What, you don't think a Manty cruiser captain can compete with them?

Not on a basis of armor, it's a safe bet that Stormtrooper armor would do a better job of protecting against pulser fire than an RMN uniform would against blaster fire, while a Marine skinsuit should put both parties on more equal footing...on the other hand, it's also a safe bet that a lightsaber wouldn't be able to block pulser fire, so any uppity Jedi or Sith cosplayers would find themselves out of their league.

Now if only someone would design a Marine Battle Armor costume...

Are you kidding? Have you ever seen Stormtrooper armor stop anything?

And I think a Jedi/Sith would be hard-pressed to defend themselves against a pulser solely based on volume of fire. Even a pulser M9 or M7 side-arm has a cyclic rate of a couple hundred rounds per minute. You pull up an M32 or an M19 shoulder-arm at 400+ RPM it's Game Over. You start talking belt-fed Tribarrels then we're talking overkill.

And considering some of the crazy-stupid costumes I've seen before, I don't think RMMC Powered Armor is exactly unfeasable. I've seen Samus Aran's armor on this very website, and putting it on big enough shoes shouldn't be a problem at all. Admittedly, the 'active camo' skin might be a bit out of people's league for the moment.

Just because Stormtrooper armor doesn't protect against blasters doesn't mean it's useless; unarmored people, like Rebel troopers and Imperial officers in the first film, get killed by the explosions and shrapnel caused by blaster near-misses, while Stormtroopers only die from direct, close-range hits. In that way it functions a lot like real-life body armor, only it offers more coverage. Though even if pulser rounds can't penetrate it (big if) it's probably a moot point anyway, since a storm of hypersonic rounds pounding against a chestplate will most definitely kill the wearer from blunt trauma alone.

Just like that same storm can't be deflected by an energy blade that can only block energy weapons to begin with, one must wonder why no one ever thinks to use rapid-fire kinetic firearms as anti-Jedi weapons...but then again there are hardly any kinetic weapons in the SW universe to begin with.

Apples and oranges I guess. But I don't think that Stormtrooper armor could do a damn thing against an explosive pulser dart at a couple thousand meters per second.

As for lightsabers, I figure any beam that can burn through a bulkhead blast door could burn up a tiny 4 millimeter dart faster than any damn thing. Wouldn't be able to do the whole 'return to sender' thing like they do with a blaster, but still, I think the blade would be able to stop a few, before the deluge of exploding spikes of f*cking death turn them into hamburger.

Definitely pretty good, the work's polished and consistent - and she really has the sense of being someone deserving of the name of "Soul of Steel".

You are the first I've seen to have drawn Elizabeth... and Ariel. For me you did good in capturing her. As for traditional Manticoran noble clothes, they are described as tail-coats. Thomasthecat has a picture describing it [link]

Glad you like it!
I remember seeing that before, but I wasn't sure if the monarch's outfit would look significantly different than regular noble's clothes, so to play it safe I just gave her the Grayson dress. It's very easy to envision, since it's just like Honor's dress except different colors.

True, Weber never went into much detail about the noble dress for Manticore, just said tailcoat and trousers done to the colors of the family.
