Description "But... K-Karkat!" The boy looked at the troll with teary eyes and an expression of pure horror as he laid there on the battlefield, covered in red blood. Karkat rubbed John's cheek with his thumb. "John please just stay with me!" The boy cried and shook his head slowly. "Karkat I can't!" He paused for a second, choking on his tears. "I'm just so scared!" Karkat hugged his matesprit tighter with his other arm. "Karkat I don't want to lose you.", John whimpered as the troll pet his hair. "Don't worry I'll never leave you. But right now I have to make sure you won't leave me." John cried on and struggled to lift his arms and hug the troll back. Karkat's eyes darted around, making sure there was no threat towards John that he could see. He rubbed the boy's shoulders, being careful to avoid the open wounds on his back dangerously near his spine.

Karkat desperately planted kisses all over John's cheeks as he heard his breath become louder. "John please keep with me! Don't panic, I'm here. Shhhhhh come on calm down, shhhh." John's heart pounded painfully against his chest and he gasped with every breath he inhaled. He was in a panic and his thoughts were everywhere, driving him even further over the edge. "Please... Just stay calm... I'm here for you." Karkat could no longer hide the red tears he had been keeping in and let them out as he held his boyfriend close, being as silent as possible. He kept a straight face as his cheeks became red and damp, trying hard not to let John notice. The boy's chest heaved and he gripped Karkat's now blood stained sweater shakily, trying to keep him close to hold onto his life. "Karkat I don't want to die." Those words sent the troll off the edge. He whined into John's shoulder as his tear ducts ran like sprinklers in summer. The human shivered as he tried to steady his breath to calm Karkat down, only causing him more pain and blood to rush out of the gashes on his back. He quivered involuntarily as he tried to reach his lips to the troll's cheek. Karkat was failing from a reassuring voice into a desperate plead. "John don't die please! I love you so much I can't stand to let you go!" John managed to move his head to face Karkat and look him straight in the eye. Well, as far as his eyes could open at least. The deep striking blue calmed Karkat down enough to retire to a shaky breath. He leaned his forehead on the human's. "John." His tone was low and sorrowful like he had accepted the death of his boyfriend. John tried to nod to answer but only gave out a small sound in response. "Tell me you love me... I can't take feeling how I do. If I lose you now then I'll be truly alone. Just let me know how you feel about me John. Because then I'll have that with me even if you go." John took the hand that Karkat had on his cheek and squeezed it as hard as his weak muscles would manage which wasn't much at all. A pool of both of their tears had formed under their heads on the surface of the ground. John's side of the puddle took over as he cried with every bit of water he had left in his body. "K-Karkat don't s-say that! Just p-please..." He sniffed and gasped in between many of his words. "You said you would protect me. Just... Hold my hand. I... I do love you Karkat. Never doubt it, because I mean it." As the last word slipped from his lips, he put his free hand on Karkat's hair trying to pull him into one last kiss before he would face the horror of certain death. The troll fulfilled this wish and entwined his fingers with the human's. He whispered to John after their faces parted about one centimeter, far enough for him to speak. "Don't worry. I won't let them hurt you anymore." John's breath was critically unsteady and Karkat could feel the boy's loud heartbeat through his chest. The troll gripped his matesprit's cold hand tighter and nuzzled his cheek, hoping his love was warm enough to keep the boy alive. The human's breath was as frozen cold as the wind he'd blown around when he was up and healthy. It seemed so long ago that he was even able to stand up.

John's thoughts ran through his entire life. Well, what he could remember of it all at this point. With every heavy breath he breathed in, a new memory was presented to him in his mind until he had gone through every one he had, causing him to just barely open his eyes to look at Karkat. The troll's shocked expression quivered as he stared with teary eyes wide open. John let his eyelids go a bit more lax and slowly, shakily, he presented a smile on his pale cheeks. He could no longer speak or see or even catch his breath to stop that pounding heart so he just smiled. His chest grew and shrunk vigorously with this raspy breath trying to keep up with his heart's high demand for oxygen. Karkat pounded lightly on him trying to get him to open his eyes. He screamed as loud as he could which was a lot because screaming was basically all he did. "John!!!! Please open your eyes!!! Stop acting like this and get that dorky grin off your pitiably adorable face!!! Please just WAKE UP!!!!!!" He slid his hand down the boy's chest as he gave up, becoming very weak himself. He could now only manage a whisper from all of the crying and yelling his throat had pushed through. "..... please wake up....."

Karkat spent countless hours at his boyfriend's side, holding his hand. The troll hadn't received food for days, so he had already begun to starve. A night had already passed and the sun was rising. Whenever a thought of the battle or his life before would present itself in his head, it would feel like it had been months since he had even moved from this position. He had long since run out of tears but he still choked up when he thought of the life of the boy in front of him. John had passed during the previous evening. Karkat was lost without him and wanted nothing more than to see his living face again. In fact, he wanted nothing but that. He could feel himself slipping away as well with the pain of his tortured heart and stinging eyes along with his growling stomach. Thinking about his hunger just brought back memories of John and his first date. He remembered the food they ordered was delicious and he had loved going to Panera Bread ever since. The pain in his stomach rose and he hissed in reaction. John still barely wore that accepting smile he had put on seconds before he died. That just strangled the troll more thinking about it. His throat was mangled from abused usage from all of the crying and pleading and screaming Karkat had done within such a short span of 15 hours. He had barely slept so his eyes stung not only from the tears. With his last breath, he put all of his strength into a loving kiss to John's lips. He eventually gave out and with that he was out, still gently hugging John with his hand holding his.

John had been walking around in the darkness with nothing filling his head and heart but sorrow and longing. He lingered as somber as he could, barely paying attention to the dream bubbles that illuminated the scene far behind him now. He was sulking along, trudging his weak legs for so long that he had passed on all of the dream bubbles that held another and another of his memories. He was now in total darkness. He collapsed onto his knees and sniffled, crossing his legs to sit down. He looked where he was almost sure was upward and spoke the first words he had since his death just fifteen hours ago. He pleaded to whomever may receive his message. "PLEASE! BRING MY LOVE BACK TO ME!" For a second, John could see nothing but white nor could he feel anything. It was weird not to even be able to see his own nose even if it was only for a split second. Within this short amount of time, despite his lack of sight, he felt a large pulling motion on him, bringing him down and backwards through universes at a time, millions of multiples faster than light speed.

John opened his weak eyes and suddenly felt rejuvenated. The soft sensation of his boyfriend's lips left him as he could make out the image of the troll's face right before his eyes. This was nothing like the dream bubbles. This wasn't a memory because he could feel it. This was life. Karkat coughed, looking as if he was about to slip away as John had done before being revived at the touch of Karkat's lips. John wore a look of surprise as he tried to squeeze his hand back. He was far too late. John heard the growl of the troll's starving stomach abruptly slow to a faint pause and his eyes died into a close. John felt the coldness of the troll's skin- nothing like Karkat at all (his race was actually comparably warm usually). He had gotten what he asked for which was to see his love again but why now in his last moment? The human caressed Karkat's cheek lightly and his eye slightly twitched. He could sense a bit of life in him as he heard a thin breath come into the troll's mouth. The breaths were separated by long periods of silence and short themselves due to his lack of strength. Too bad they were miles maybe even worlds from food. John kissed his thought to be dead matesprit and picked him up to let him know he was there. He tried to hold onto whatever life was left not drained from the troll. He was sorry that his kiss couldn't reenergize Karkat (because it wasn't to revive a dead soul, but to hold onto a dying one) but hoped his touch was enough to warm his ever so slowly beating heart.

He looked back at the troll frequently as he dragged him across the battlefield almost uselessly. They had reached three fourths of a mile from their puddle of blood and tears in no direction in particular. Suddenly off in the distance John noticed something black and oddly shaped that seemed to be holding something. He picked up Karkat bridal style and ran him to the courtyard drone who lay there lifeless like every other prospitian and dersite he had passed by. But this particular dersite carried a few strange items. He had a pumpkin filled with licorice Scottie dogs and Swedish fish and had a banana in his pocket. THANK GOG for clubs deuce's silliness or he wouldn't have squired these items. John picked up first the banana which he found the most appetizing and nutritious of the bunch. He handed it to Karkat who had been silently staring at the dersite with open eyes. He accepted the fruit which was universally foreign to him and ate it as ordered by John's hand that had pushed the banana towards Karkat's face. He made sure to eat it gradually for they might have a long journey ahead of them and oh man did they. The hardest journey of their newly regained lives.

I nearly cried. The ending did have a few plot holes and seemed a bit rushed, but overall it was good.

I thought I made it very clear that John died and came back to life and saved Karkat's life while he was dying. There's a thing in homestuck that if you kiss a dead person they come back to life just in case you didn't know that.
